Please send help I keep buying programmable keypads

(In my defense, this is ostensibly research. I want to write an essay about how to actually have fun putting them to real use.)

Left: Wooting uWu with custom RAMA keycaps

Right: Figma Creator Micro from Work Louder with custom keycaps

Be still, my heart! 🧡
@mwichary Trying to decide whether to recommend the Spotify Car Thing, which feels like it's at least thematically relevant, even if it only has one(?) actual "key".
@mwichary RAMA keycaps that they actually made and shipped (rather than just taking the money and running and then eventually going into liquidation) are a genuine collectors item.
@mwichary hobbyist keyboards, weed strains, and a capella groups have in common that half the fun is enjoying the names
@mwichary I have always wanted one of these for the debugger commands (step into / step over / etc). Never seemed quite worth it but always tempting.
@tikitu @mwichary
That’s an excellent idea!
(as in: I wanted to do this for a while with my two decks, but never finished it 😞)
@mwichary Dont worry....its not an addiction before you have at least 50....(says my inner voice while counting my 39 mechanical keyboards).
@mwichary sounds like you got it under control

@mwichary I can recommend some more?

#helping

@uep Only if you like them!

@mwichary

... now, let's be real. Is this a good place to ask for help?

It's like going to a casino and asking if anyone can help with a gambling addiction.

(Those are so cute... where did you get the bigger one?)

@futurebird It’s the Figma Creator Micro from Work Louder (with custom keycaps).

@mwichary

I'm confident it's not a problem unless you have one keypad with five layers and each key allows you to selected a different second keypad.

@futurebird Ooh you are giving me ideas.
@mwichary Please send help; I keep buying teletypes
@thalia I am sending reverse help! Buy more!!! Teletypes are amazing.
@mwichary @thalia I have Marcin's keyboard book, he knows a lot of things, it even has Teletype pictures, you can trust him.
@elb @mwichary I missed out on that, because I couldn't justify the cost at the time. They're now exceedingly rare and expensive :(
@mwichary I presume you've seen Logitech, UIlanzi and others trying to eat into Elgato's Streamdeck market.
@static Oh yeah, I should get one of those with screens…
@static (It’s funny that Logitech by now copied both the Steam Deck and the Stream Deck.)
@mwichary The Elgato ones are good, if expensive. But what makes them work is the plugin ecosystem. I have two Elgato ones and a Ulanzi one and the Ulanzu plugin range is much much smaller than the Elgato one.
@static Thanks! Good to know.
@mwichary It was nice to know you, sir.
I doubt there's anything any of us can do for you…
@mwichary What kind of help do you need? Keycap shape recommendations? A soldering iron perhaps?
@mwichary Curious to know if the Stream Deck line falls into this category for you.
@mwichary I also have rather a few. They’re so fun
@BrendanThompson Any interesting things you use them for?
@mwichary literally nothing if I’m honest. I keep buying more with “this is the one that’ll work for me” but they never really do haha
@mwichary I can send you self addressed prepaid packets to make it ease to rid yourself of such gizmos. Is that the kind of help you had in mind?
