The Overton window has moved so far to the right that that now manifests itself as a move to the left in older people.
In the past perhaps conservatism was seen as fair and just but those days are long past as it has moved to the right.

Michelle HughesI've heard it said that this illusion comes from the fact that Black people are less conservative than white people, but because of racism, Black people die younger, and so if you look at charts of conservativeness by age, you'll see the average conservativeness increase with age. But it's not because of people becoming more conservative. The conservative old people were conservative when they were young. The liberal people just didn't make it to that age.
