White House Seeks $1.5 Trillion for #Defense in New #Budget Request

The huge proposed increase would be partly offset by steep #cuts to #DomesticPrograms, some of which the #Trump admin describes as wasteful [which means they’re likely crucial social welfare programs].

Trump Requests $1.5 Trillion for Military Spending

The huge proposed increase would be partly offset by steep cuts to domestic programs, some of which the Trump administration describes as wasteful.

The New York Times

With the #US at #war with #Iran & embroiled in conflicts around the world, the White House said on Friday that it would ask #Congress to approve about $1.5 trillion for #defense in the 2027 fiscal year. If enacted, that amount would set #military #spending at its highest level in history.

The request, which arrived on Friday as part of Trump’s new #budget, would amount to a whopping 40% bump from what the US spent on the #Pentagon this fiscal year.

The admin said it would couple the proposed increase with a call for $73 billion in #cuts across #domestic agencies, including the elimination of some #climate, #housing & #education programs [like I said, crucial].

By Friday morning, the White House had released only a summary of its #budget request, which covers the period beginning Oct 1, with fuller details expected later.

Together, the ideas sum to a fiscal blueprint that could add trillions of dollars to the brimming federal #debt over the next decade, if lawmakers translate Trump’s full vision into #law without other changes to federal #spending.

#Trump urged #Congress to approve the new #defense money, >$1.1 trillion, as part of its work to fund the government, & to enact the remaining $350 billion using the same #legislative tactic that allowed #Republicans to clinch their tax cuts last year.

#Trump also asked lawmakers to increase federal funding for #border enforcement & mass #deportations.

In the days before releasing the initial details of his plan, Trump & aides framed the proposed increase for #defense in urgent terms, citing a need to restock munitions & supplies as the #war with #Iran continues. At one point, Trump indicated at a lunch that #military #spending needed to be a national priority, even at the expense of federal safety-net programs & other govt #aid….

@Nonilex This is nothing more than enriching Trump, his family and his supporters who invest in military every which way. Trump doesn’t care if the USA (& rest of the world) starves, freezes, dies as long as he and his own all the money & property.

So basically full Nazi

“The Nazis believed in war as the primary engine of human progress, and argued that the purpose of a country's economy should be to enable that country to fight and win wars of expansion. As such, almost immediately after coming to power, they embarked on a vast program of military rearmament, which quickly dwarfed civilian investment”
