10G USB-C Ethernet adapters are now a thing... just ordered one ($87 shipped to US), probably will run out of first batch quickly: https://www.wisdpi.com/products/usb-c-to-10gb-ethernet-adapter

@geerlingguy So many years I've been waiting for this. Thanks for the heads up.
@geerlingguy that is a lot of speed at a reasonable price

@geerlingguy
No suppliers in our area over 1.25GB

My current supplier is fine at 900MB duplex (with a static IP supplement). Seems sufficient for our family streaming needs. Curious to know what you can do with that extra 9GB that an average user isn't getting with 1GB?

For me, I think Duplex is more important (I keep photos/videos on a home Immich server)

@geerlingguy We want a 802.3bt version of this to charge a phone (and get a wired connection) with PoE. 1G is fine though... Can't find one.

@geerlingguy is that the same chipset as this? (I’d guess so.)

@geerlingguy very curious to hear what you think of that design once you've shoved a few dozen terabytes through it!
@geerlingguy
but are linux compatible?
@geerlingguy Hope you'll post a review. I saw a similar one at $60 (same chip) but I'm hesitating to order.
@geerlingguy oooooooo I look forward to your review!
@geerlingguy
Is that case/enclosure doubling up as a heatsink?
@guardeddon yes, CNC'd aluminum I think

@geerlingguy

Good thing this isn't an Apple product, or we'd be looking at a 10G Ethernet adapter shipping with USB 2.0 😁

@geerlingguy Great. Now I wait 10+ years for this very same hardware to be available in my country :/
