Every American would be basking in luxury, or at least square meals and healthcare, if our government only thought that investing in ourselves was more prudent than destroying everybody else. A country led by self-proclaimed "fiscal conservatives," no less. They're throwing our riches away.

Declan McManus, 1982

@Cdespinosa Aww so good. Hi Chris - just happened to read the NYT feature on you and loved it. Keep it real.

@Cdespinosa @danielpunkass The boy said, “Dad, they’re going to take me to task. But I’ll be back by Christmas.” It’s just a rumor that’s been spread around town.

@Gte @Cdespinosa @danielpunkass oh, Wyatt 👏🏻

Matching Mole are one of my favorite bands of the early 70s 👍🏻

@Gte @Cdespinosa @danielpunkass uh. Wait. Declan MacManus? As in Elvis Costello?

Always thought that Shipbuilding was a Robert Wyatt song…

@danielpunkass
You mean, like in the fifties and sixties, when the rich were taxed?
😇
@danielpunkass tbh, the same could easily apply to a number of countries. Which makes it even more relevant.

^ then you can remind folks that the nondiscretionary still includes $1.5 Trillion for financing past wars, veterans benefits, healthcare costs, maintenance of nuclear weapons (DoE budget not DoD). Because of how debt is structured it’s not entirely possible to say, but I argue that we still haven’t paid off World War 1.
