So there's KeepassXC, keepass2Android, keepass, and keepassdx, and probdbly others. I can't find reliable source of meaningful comparison data.

Any suggestions? Looks like keepass XC is "best"? I have no need for more than basics including attached files.

Oh right i forgot -- different collections of "keepass*" fdroid vs goog play. Aargh

I've been running about the same: XC on the desktop -- comes with debian distro I guess -- keepass2android and also KPass on the phone.

There doesn't seem to be much difference between them I can discern.

Have been looking at adjusting my practices and, sadly, browser, maybe vivaldi, and handling passwords differently.

I guess I'm mostly looking for outliers -- good or bad ("DONT USE KPASSLEAK") etc. There's yet another "keypass" on f-droid, but otherwise, it's all google play.

Things are not good.

@tomjennings

The only distinction I would make re: XC on the desktop: If it matters to you, the version in the Debian repo(stable) is about two versions behind the current release.

I decided it was worth it, for me, to keep it up to date. Initially, I used the AppImage and eventually migrated to the FlatPak installation for less manual futzing. It's the only app I use with FlatPak.
Otherwise, IIRC it will take ~15 days for the latest version to reach stable. Just something to consider depending on your personal risk/threat evaluation.
Hope that helps rather than frustrates. 😆

@tomjennings

I've been using KeepassXC on my desktop for ~5+ years & keepassDX via F-Droid on my Android for ~2ish.

@tomjennings I have been using keepass XC for a very long time. I am not sure why. It works?
@tomjennings well, bad ideas always multiply. Putting a password manager into a browser is that kinda thing

@tomjennings from memory KeepassXC is a new development team revival of Keepass, starting maybe a decade ago. At the time (the original) Keepass development had mostly stopped, but IIRC the original team has subsequently released some updates.

I don’t know about the others.

But I’ve been using KeepassXC for the last decade or so, and it’s worked well for me. And is still actively maintained.

@tomjennings using #keepass2android for a long time because of the embedded cloud sync option. But that can be also handled in other ways. On Linux #KeepassXC. For me a perfect combination also covering the basic needs you mentioned.
As keepass2android is only on google play, i also thought about switching to #keepassDX from the @IzzyOnDroid repository. Comparisons I know are mainly from the german @heiseonline or @heisec magazine
@geotux That is the combination I use, and am happy with. I use no "cloud sync", though, but rather sync locally (via ADB (using my own https://codeberg.org/izzy/adbsync there, but alternatives to that do exist of course) @tomjennings @[email protected] @heisec
