I just spent 7 days in Australia and didn't see a single spider. I did see a bunch of kangaroos hanging out by the airport, probably plane spotters.
@grumpygamer I am from Brazil and for the more dangerous spiders we use to say you never see them. When you do, it’s too late
@grumpygamer that’s because they’re all crawling around on your back where you can’t see them
@grumpygamer that doesn’t mean the spiders didn’t see you…
@grumpygamer This time of year the drop bears have eaten most of the spiders
@grumpygamer Did you have a car while there? Lived there for six years and I have many memories (and stories) of spiders infesting ours. Huntsman parked on the top of the back seat was my favorite.
@grumpygamer Gotta check the pouches.
@grumpygamer those weren't kangaroos - that's how big the spiders are
@grumpygamer no snakes in ceilings ?
@grumpygamer there's a head camera video where a guy is paragliding touching down in a remote area and within a second of landing a kangaroo comes up and punches him then hops away and that's been my established model for what greets anyone arriving by air in Australia

@jplebreton Yeah, happen right after you pass through immigration, then you wade though a pool of spiders then worst of all, you have to drink a Fosters.
@grumpygamer @jplebreton Then some guy comes over and tells you that your cutlery is inadequate.

@jplebreton @grumpygamer i am reminded of Terry Pratchett's Last Continent with the bit where one of the characters (edit: it's Death, of course it is) asks for a list of dangerous animals and gets 100 volumes dumped on his head, so then asks for a list of non-dangerous animals and a tiny sheet of paper floats down with a single sentence on it

"Some of the sheep..."

@ahchay @jplebreton @grumpygamer lmao is that the book where Rincewind reaches into more than dubious holes in some dangerous desert rocks and produces a plate of cake or sth?

I need to re-read these

@ppxl @jplebreton @grumpygamer could be, a lot of the rincewind stuff blurs into one for me, it's been a while since I've read the early books too
@grumpygamer They like the island hoppers.
