Just a random person with various interests in tech, politics, and … ummm … not much else. Oh, one little thing. Lots of snark.

Gee, Joe. Who could have foreseen all of it?

Team @adammockler — I have a son his age who is also very articulate on these important issues and that trio of — and this is coming from an old white lady boomer, tho suit free — these old white dudes look scelrotic and out of touch. Also grumpy. Stop shaking your fists from the lawn at the young and engaged — the future is about them and not you.
Cities can now achieve “what was once thought impossible”: cutting air pollution by 20–45% in little more than a decade. A new analysis has found that 19 cities, including London, San Francisco and Beijing, cut levels of both PM2.5 and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) by more than 20% since 2010, driven by measures such as cycle lanes, electric vehicles and restrictions on polluting traffic. You know how in every movie set during WWII there’s a scene where Nazis are checking papers on the trains? That is the USA as of today

ICE seen at Atlanta airport amid partial shutdown

Armed federal immigration officers in tactical gear moved through terminals at some of the busiest U.S. airports Monday, standing near security lines and checkpoints after President Donald Trump ordered their deployment during a partial government shutdown that has disrupted air travel nationwide. The officers have not screened passengers so far. The Trump administration said they would supplement Transportation Security Administration staffing at certain airports but provided few details about exactly what they would be doing. After intensified immigration enforcement and protests in cities across the country over the past year, their presence has unsettled some travelers and raised new questions.

It’s simply beautiful to see. ICE agents, whose misbehavior is the direct cause of TSA agents not being paid, will be standing with TSA agents. Wonder if those ICE agents will be mentioning how much they are enjoying still receiving their paychecks.

BREAKING: NPR reports DOJ withheld files containing allegations that Trump sexually abused a minor. “More than 50 pages of FBI interviews, and notes from conversations with a woman who accused Trump of sexual abuse decades ago when she was a minor” are being withheld from the public. This is a massive cover-up: to be clear, the DOJ literally went through and removed the pages that dealt with Trump raping a 13-year-old.

Scott Galloway: How to Hit Trump Where it Hurts (Unsubscribe) — On with Kara Swisher

Scott Galloway is spearheading a consumer-led protest movement with a simple goal: to get people to cancel their subscriptions to tech companies that have disproportionate influence over the U.S. economy. The New York University marketing professor and Kara’s “Pivot” co-host says targeting the companies that dominate the stock market — and by extension many of the CEOs who’ve cozied up to President Trump — is an easy way to pressure an administration that doesn’t respond to citizen outrage or media criticism. Kara and Scott talk about his goals for the Resist and Unsubscribe campaign, how he came up with a list of companies worth targeting, and the outsized impact unsubscribing can have on a tech company’s market capitalization. They also talk about the potential to extend the Resist and Unsubscribe boycott beyond February. Questions? Comments? I really cannot stress this enough. When I visited France, I visited a building where I read an entry in a log book where a Nazi recorded my great-grandmother's death in the camps. The name of this building was the "Musée de la Résistance et de la *Déportation*". It was not the "museum of the death camps" because they don't _call_ them death camps. While it's happening, they call it "deportations". The name "death camps" shows up once the occupying army is rolling their tanks into your capital.
