Stack Overflow
@nixCraft It's really just Reddit. And that's probably not a coincidence.
@nixCraft Depending on how you define social media, Stack Overflow is also social media
@nixCraft one of the big design choices by @codinghorror going all the way back to 2008, was that comments were tiny as people are here for answers. There was actually no way to comment when stackoverflow first launched, and the tiny comments were the compromise. The beta site is just a complete misunderstanding of why the site worked. Seems like it is not happening though: https://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/438628/retiring-the-beta-site

@Haskellelephant @nixCraft this is an accurate summary but I have not had time to look at the details of what you are describing yet 🤔

@nixCraft

Nope, immediate fail. They have the LLM prompt front and prominent on the new UI, so they want users to be interacting with it. I asked it to give me the link the answer describing {the exact title text of one of the questions answered just 3 lines down}, and it completely ignored my request of providing a link to the question and instead tried to answer it itself. Unfortunately it's using OpenAI so there's a 90% chance the answer was complete bullshit and will only cause more issues than it fixes.

Complete fail. Do not like. It's a programing-centric forum, at least if you're going to implement an LLM, make sure that model is a programming-centric model!

@nixCraft Additionally, I think they're forgetting something. If I'm going to SO for an answer, I'm going to SO for an answer! If I wanted to ask a chatbot for an answer which I completely expect to be inaccurate and require additional manual research, I'd ask a chatbot.
@nixCraft Only instead of posting your thoughts to like minded people like before, they want you chatting with a bot.
@nixCraft kinda looks like reddit

@nixCraft
/me sees ““AI””
