When I look at #artemis I don’t think about a billionaire or a company. I think about my country. And for a fleeting moment I don’t feel shame. This is what it feels like when we, as a society, accomplish something. We don’t focus on some singular person. We feel this whole country pride.
@paco isn't that a country music song?
@paco same, for once I totally forgot about the real world, just amazed at the accomplishment
@paco fleeting is a good word for how fast that feeling appears and disappears
@paco it is a reminder of what we should be striving for as a country and as a world.
@paco That's a very nice feeling but on the other hand that's exactly what DJT wanted to achieve, when he started Artemis 2 in the first place.
@ennopark Whatever. I don’t associate it with him at all.
@paco That may be how you feel but all I feel is disgust. It's a very expensive joy ride intended to distract. I will be surprised if it doesn't end in disaster.

@Axomamma NASA gets real things done on a shoestring budget. This is not some billionaire’s phallic folly. And so much public good has come from NASA.

I don’t want to pick fights over it, but I can’t see anyone at NASA working all these years and doing all this engineering “to distract.” It is literal rocket science. It cannot happen in response to current events. It is remarkable that they managed to keep it going to a conclusion in the 4 years since Artemis 1, all things considered.

@paco I'm not suggesting NASA is doing this to distract. I'm just annoyed this is being billed as "going to the moon."

@paco As I posted on here earlier, watching the Artemis launch, that's the future I was promised as a kid.

Not this petty bullshit caused by pathetic old dinosaurs the world is dealing with.

@paco #artemis makes me feel proud to be human.
@paco yes, for a brief moment I could focus on something that is amazing (and somewhat mundane given all the craziness in this world) and something I can be proud of for those who actually work together towards a noble goal. Even my husband mentioned as much, “finally something nice to watch and think about”. I yearn for the day to come when we can be the country we want and should be, not the one I despise. The land of the free and the home of the brave.🩷😿
@paco I get it, I'd add humanity in. We can do such things, and yet.
