I can’t really square the enthusiastic destruction of most things science, e.g. education, cancer research, earth system monitoring, etc, etc, with a rocket launch to the moon.

@AlaskaWx

i feel the same way...F* the moon, i live on Earth, & i'm more concerned about the fact that they're planning to privatize the National Parks & remove all environmental protections from the Gulf of Mexico

if they cared abt science, they'd fund SCIENCE not Elon Musk's hobbyhorse for flying around in space (that's not science, it's engineering at best, but really it's a scam to empty the US Treasury into private pockets)

@AlaskaWx A very expensive contribution to the military/industrial complex with a bonus moon launch.
@AlaskaWx the problem with american exceptionalism is it means you think everything just happens on its own automatically
@AlaskaWx it squares perfectly with this administration’s desire to mine the moon for Helium. It has nothing to do with advancing science because we did this shit 50 yrs ago! Still, it sure beats blowing up children.

@AlaskaWx it is worth recalling, that the whole Artemis program is about $90bn over the course of the 3 launches. not good, but gets spent on wages etc over many years, SLS isnt good value for money.

however, in 30 days of war in Iran, USA has already spent $25bn...

@AlaskaWx
China is working on going to the moon. I assume it’s not unrelated.
@AlaskaWx @ai6yr with this administration in the US, it's always about the spectacle. Bread & Circuses.

@CuriousMagpie Trump has been fixated on sending humans to the Moon and/or Mars during his administration because he wants to be mentioned beside them in the history books.

It’s not a scientific endeavor—there’s nothing they can find on the moon that we don’t already know about—and it won’t be a practical launching point to get to Mars for decades.

Trump tried to decimate NASA’s budget last year; he clearly doesn’t care about any of the science they planned. It’s just a vanity project for him.

@AlaskaWx is the science being destroyed, or is public access to it being destroyed. The pattern is that they want science owned by the ownership class, and superstition for everyone else. That's my (conspiracy) theory, anyway.
