I can’t really square the enthusiastic destruction of most things science, e.g. education, cancer research, earth system monitoring, etc, etc, with a rocket launch to the moon.

@CuriousMagpie Trump has been fixated on sending humans to the Moon and/or Mars during his administration because he wants to be mentioned beside them in the history books.

It’s not a scientific endeavor—there’s nothing they can find on the moon that we don’t already know about—and it won’t be a practical launching point to get to Mars for decades.

Trump tried to decimate NASA’s budget last year; he clearly doesn’t care about any of the science they planned. It’s just a vanity project for him.
