As of March 31, 2026, Larry Ellison's net worth is estimated to be around $258 billion, according to Bloomberg, placing him among the world's top three richest individuals. His wealth is primarily derived from his 40% ownership stake in Oracle.

Today, Oracle began executing what analysts estimate could be its largest layoff in history, with reports of 20,000 to 30,000 job cuts affecting roughly 18% of its global workforce.

Employees received termination emails from "Oracle Leadership" at 6 a.m. with no prior warning, marking the day of the email as their final working day.

The restructuring is driven by Oracle's need to fund an aggressive $156 billion AI infrastructure buildout. The company reported a 95% jump in net income to $6.13 billion last quarter.

Oracle is cutting up to 30,000 employees to pay for AI data centres

Employees across the US, India, Canada, and Mexico woke up on 31 March to termination emails from “Oracle Leadership” with no prior warning. TD Cowen estimates the cuts will affect 18% of Oracle’s 162,000-person workforce and free up $8-10 billion to fund AI infrastructure. Oracle has not confirmed the total number. Oracle began executing what […]

Hey, speaking of Evil, Ellison and Oracle, Oracle acquired Cerner for $28.3 billion; all the clinical records from 14,000 medical facilities, the CMS contract covering Medicare and Medicaid for 150 million Americans, a federal designation that lets them see health data moving across the entire system, and a commercial AI product selling access to 129 million patient records that launched 13 days before the CMS contract was announced.

HIPAA was supposed to prevent this, but it doesn't. And the contract that governs what Oracle can do with your Medicare data has never been made public.

And let us not forget this blast from the past, where Larry said the panopticon is necessary to make everyone behave the way he thinks they should.

A Bruce Springsteen lyric keeps running through my head; Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in its funny bone, that’s where they expect it least. I realize the song was not meant as a revolutionary anthem, and in context it doesn’t make sense as one, but something about it holds true for this situation.

These are small fragile men, the #EpsteinClass, their egos stretch far beyond their human containers and the things they cannot abide, more than anything else, is to be ridiculed or ignored.

We need to make being a billionaire morally abhorrent, someone you’d twitch your skirts away from. There is no moral excuse for billionaires to exist, and they should not. We should shun them from polite society. And laugh at their outrage.

Ellison declares Oracle all-in on AI mass surveillance, says it'll keep everyone in line

Cops to citizens will be 'on their best behavior because we're constantly recording and reporting'

Oh, you know what’s really fun about Ellison Panopticon Datacenters of Doom?

AI data centers are creating "data heat islands" that can increase local land surface temperatures by an average of 2°C (3.6°F), with extreme cases recording rises up to 9.1°C (16.4°F). These facilities, which produce massive amounts of waste heat from high-energy computing, impact surrounding areas up to 10 kilometers away, affecting over 340 million people worldwide.

So that’s exciting!

Reported initially by New Scientist, but it’s paywalled and archive links no longer work for me. Archive.org I guess has beef with some backbone provider and I’m caught in infinite captcha hell. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Data centers are creating ‘heat islands’ on land around them – warming them by up to 16 degrees, researchers warn

Researchers found that roughly 340 million people now live within 6.2 miles of a data center

@MissConstrue

This is fine. 💩

@GhostOnTheHalfShell 30,000 people had to lose their jobs, so Larry could heat up their backyards. Capitalism everybody!
@MissConstrue meta is rumored a similar percentage cut . They aren't even trying to hide acting in concert anymore.

@ATLeagle If chatter is correct, meta, Microsoft, Amazon, adobe and apple all have layoffs planned that crest 10k.

It’s like they forgot the bread and circuses part of keeping an oligarchy running. Most Americans are two paychecks away from homelessness. There is no safety net, the republicans have spent 50 years destroying it.

We are a heavily armed, emotionally unstable, abused populace. Millionaires in our area have been tearing down affordable housing so they can build McMansions, which are unguarded and flammable. They flaunt their wealth by driving through Starbucks in a car that costs more than a barista makes in a decade, and seem to forget how easily poisoned they are.

The trauma response of the last two decades will explode in unfathomable violence when people start seeing their kids starve and their parents die from lack of medical care.

@MissConstrue yes. The social backlash may not be contained this time. I have lost my confidence in enough people caring at the same time, or any opposition leader breaking through the practiced propaganda professionals. Small singular actions may build up if we are lucky.
