Detained and Separated: The Human Cost of U.S. Immigration Policy on Families and Children · Mobilize
The Indivisible Lincoln Square Immigration Committee will host a forum on family separation and detention on Thursday, April 16th from 5:30-7:30PM at Sulzer Regional Library. Speakers will include the Chicago City Council’s Committee on Immigrant and Refugee Rights, the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights, and Paral & Associates—who will discuss local immigrant demographics. Background: ICE resumed the cruel practice of family detention as part of the administration’s broad attacks on immigrant communities, including militarized enforcement, mass deportations, and increased surveillance. ICE detains children—including infants and toddlers—alongside their parents, where families wait to see if ICE will remove them from the U.S. or if they will be granted protection and be allowed to remain in the country. In addition, 11,000 children are now separated from their families due to immigration actions. Join us to learn what we can do to free children and families.
