Morning Mastodonians!

I have resolved to stop by #PlanetFitness every morning when I take my wife to work, which is 1 to 3 times a week. With Hockey wrapping up in the next couple of weeks, I will need the exercise. So I went in this morning. I have an eye doctor appointment later #Today, so I had to drive her in. I am only there about 30 minutes, doing 10 minutes on the stairs, then 3 to 5 weight machines, but it’s a good little workout.

I have started taking #creatine in the morning, either in my coffee or in orange juice. It supposedly helps with muscle recovery and even memory. Both of which I can use all the help I can get. It’s a tasteless powder that you mix with a drink. I wonder if or when I will notice anything? I am not very attuned to my body, so it’s hard for me to tell if this actually does anything. Anyone else out there trying creatine?
I had a great time at #PaxEast on Friday. I spent the rest of the weekend regretting not going for another day. It’s a little weird to spend $70 to play a board game with your friends, but the atmosphere was fun, and there was a lot to look at. I played five games on Friday: Get Baked, Photosynthesis, Sagrada, Daybreak, and Moon Colony Bloodbath. I enjoyed them all, more or less. But nothing I felt like rushing out and buying. I resisted the temptation to buy Sagrada at a good price at the show.
I am debating skipping out on a day or two at the #SaltMine because the weather looks great and we didn’t get much done outside over the weekend. A friend of mine is starting at STR soon. I’ve been trying to get him on board for a couple of years now. I’m excited for three reasons – he’s a really good developer, I get a hefty bonus for referring him, and now I can stop listening to him whine about his job at Amazon. 😸

Be safe. Wash your hands. Watch your distance. Wear your N95 mask. Vaccinate! Boost!

@jdarnold
No one was wearing masks?
@notyourfanboy Masks were rare. I Usually mask up in situations like this, but I didn’t on Friday. 🙀
@jdarnold nb - if you’re healthy it can give you false positives for reduced kidney function. If you are already blessed with kidney disease it’s unknown whether that quirk is harmless or not.
@Kierkegaanks Thanks for the heads up - I will keep it in mind.

@jdarnold

I have not, but I'd be curious about responses! My recovery has definitely slowed down since hitting menopause, so any advantage I can get 😊

@deirdrebeth Exactly my thoughts. Well, not menopause 😹 but needing all the help I can get! I've been taking magnesium glycinate as recommended by a friend for joint pain, but haven't really noticed anything.
@deirdrebeth @jdarnold omega 3 epa can help with muscle pain and inflammation. There are supplements with concentrated epa. (Or if you prefer it, oily fish is likely better)

@Kierkegaanks @jdarnold

Oh I'm already all in on fish oil. That stuff is more effective than my biologic short term!

I tried the magnesium glycinate for a year with no noticeable difference, same with glucosamine & chondroitin sadly (despite it working really well for both my parents and a sibling)

@deirdrebeth @jdarnold my ex swears by magnesium but it does little for me. I casually assume that it’s because it takes a lot of time for it to build up in your tissue as opposed to become present in your blood tests. I think all the electrolytes affect our muscles, but supplementing potassium and kalcium is tricky business
@Kierkegaanks @deirdrebeth I give our dogs a squirt of fish oil every meal for their skin. Maybe I should grab one too!

@jdarnold @Kierkegaanks

I prefer caplets, but whatever works! 😝

@jdarnold have taken creatine some periods and it definitely helps at the gym. That particular effect is normally about 3 weeks into it. Whether it’s the same for other effects to kick in, I’m not sure about.
@anderseknert Thanks for the info. I have a 100 day supply, so I'll give it at least that long.

@jdarnold

From what I've read, it takes several weeks for effects to become noticeable.
