@jschauma What the hell. I know what "verschlimmbessern" actually means but out of habit I hit the translate function for the post and it spit out:

That's... next level.

Is there some kind of SEO hack going around that I have missed?

@jochie @jschauma interesting, probably an artifact of NN-based translation? The meanings are close enough, and from context it looks like one is a real translation of the other

@lambda @jschauma In my case, it possibly was (the translation is coming from the Mastodon server which is configured to use deepl.com at this time).

The @ivory iOS client gave the same result and I _thought_ it used something on-device (from iOS) for translations, but I haven’t verified that yet.

@jochie @jschauma IPhone translation seems… at best confused. In tusker, I get the same ‘whole-post’ translation as you do. (“Vibe coding”)

But get a very different experience if translating a selection from each.

(Attachments with alt text. Context: as a non-speaker, I’m likely missing something obvious about why this doesn’t translate well.)

@jpmens @jschauma there is unfix ..... not a new thing either unfix.org is from 1998 ;)

And yes un(f)ix as it was also a joke on UNIX, but primarily about unfix'ing a machine after it was patched so that a vulnerability one wanted to use was there again….
