I have an interesting issue with Omni Describer. When I first tried it several months ago, it worked like a dream. Now, I cannot even get to the point where the YouTube video is downloaded. It times out. It doesn't matter which vid I try, even short ones. I've swapped out the API key, not that we're even getting to that stage. I've updated the app. It's a shame because it used to be good.
@brian_hartgen Its probably because the version of yt-dlp its using is out of date, YouTube likes to really break that, a lot.
@johann Thank you. I did try updating it and as far as I know it is up-to-date.
@brian_hartgen It might also need something like Deno, which yt-dlp requires now to work properly.
@brian_hartgen sadly the dev has focused more on doing that threw a web site now, and not the desktop app, and I believe there is a subscription for it now. I can't remember the web site, as i didn't save it. the desktop one is suppose to work still, but they aren't updating the desktop app anymore. I can still get mine usually to work on local videos. let me see if mine times out on the whole youtube one.
@JamminJerry @brian_hartgen It’s still in Beta, so no subscription yet. studio.binclusive.io
@technocounselor @JamminJerry If that is from the same developer, it doesn't look half as good.
@brian_hartgen @technocounselor I don't think it is. this is called content studio it looks like. IK could be very wrong of course, but this just doesn't look the same at all.
@brian_hartgen @JamminJerry No it doesn’t, but it is where he is doing all of the updates now.
@technocounselor @brian_hartgen well if this is the case. I am not sure if I will use it. I did look at what the pricing is going to be, and I saw how many tokens you can end up using on just one video, and if I am doing math right, and reading the pricing right, that is not what I would call afordable. not only that, like brian said it just doesn't look, and or feel the same at all.
@JamminJerry @brian_hartgen Yeah I’ll have to decide what I’m going to do once he starts charging for it.
@technocounselor @brian_hartgen well for now, the desktop one still works, so that is what I will do for now. me personally, I don't mind paying for something, but if it is out of my price range, I jsut can't. I want something for watching the videos we take of our boys. those are more important to me than youtube videos, or tv shows. smile.

@brian_hartgen that is interesting that yours is timing out. I just tried it with the following youtube video, and mine went threw it just fine.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrczJtisOrc&t=5s

I have attached an mp3 file showing you that it did work for me.

@JamminJerry Now to be fair, that one did work. So I wonder what the difference is? I'll go deeper into it now I know it is capable of working.
@brian_hartgen if I am not mistaken, the gemini that is uses is 2.0 by default, and I know that one is being turned of I think in either June or Juoly, but there is suppose to be to override that to have it use a newer moddle, but not quite sure what you type in the edit field for that., but like you said, in your case it wasn't even getting to that part, so I honestly don't know.
@JamminJerry I think it must be the way I am submitting the URL. I was copying it from the address bar. But if I go to Share, and copy the URL of the video that way, it seems to work. OK Gemini blocked it, but it did at least download it.
@brian_hartgen here is the very odd thing. the way I did it when I showed you it worked is I did the same as you copying from the address bar, because in all honesty I keep forgetting about the share thing. I have just always used the address bar. in fact that is how I share youtube links on here.
@brian_hartgen @JamminJerry whwt api service are you using? Gemini charge $.10 for 1 million tokens
@brian_hartgen I'm thinking it's not an omni describer issue, but a Youtube issue. they've probably once more fiddled on the Youtube end. Here's a workaround though. Use Callliope to download the video but not to convert it to mp3, then tell Omni describer to describe the local video.
@maerlynofmiria That is a good point. I have another method for downloading the video. I should have thought of that. Will try it.
@brian_hartgen I'd use it to describe a few videos I have of films that aren't otherwise described, but I can't make it work with videos more than 15 minutes in length.
@maerlynofmiria That's a good workaround. It worked.
@brian_hartgen I'm glad to help. I just wish I knew why it's giving me this issue with not allowing me to get full length movies described.
@maerlynofmiria I read that you can describe vids of up to 30 minutes duration, but no more than that.
@brian_hartgen ok, then how do they expect you to be able to get a full length film described? That makes no sense to me. And the one time I got it to work with a video over fifteen minutes long, it got locked into a loop near the end of the video, constantly describing the same action over and over and overa gain lol.
@maerlynofmiria The developer has never claimed that you could get full length movies described, not that I've read.
