@TheBreadmonkey also a great visual to explain UNIX type OSes
@TheBreadmonkey what makes this so 80s are the cocaine eyebags, enlarged nostrils and belly bloat.
@TheBreadmonkey
* I run those on Linux.
@TheBreadmonkey
The guy in this photo, by the way, is ME, Ben.
Well, in spirit anyway.
I used to have a coat like that.
You can't use a mobile phone to replace that coat.

A Caterpillar 299D3 XE Land Management Compact Track Loader equipped with a forestry mulcher attachment. It's a big big yellow and black scary looking machine.

@TheBreadmonkey That and/or RU Sirius in a black trenchcoat and fedora, his utility belt dangling with 19x0s-vintage serial dongles, barcode scanners and other chunky gadgets that presumably are meant to be 1337 h4x0r t00lz

@TheBreadmonkey

The CD player in my smartphone doesn't work as well as one might think.

@TheBreadmonkey

I am not this well equipped.

@TheBreadmonkey Look at all that stuff which *just worked*.

@TheBreadmonkey

what era was this picture taken in?

is this the victorian era?

@benroyce @TheBreadmonkey I'd say sometime after the late seventies as I live in Torquay which exists in 1976 and a chunk of that stuff hasn't arrived here yet. I am looking forward to summer this year though as I feel it could be a warm one.*

* Niche UK references here.

The guy in the picture is Bob Sirott, a 1970's AM radio DJ from the Chicago station WLS (World's Largest Store).

The format was rock and roll. This was before AM radio transitioned to talk and music moved to FM.

This is picture definitely from the 1980's.

He has stayed in radio and television since the 70's and is currently a host on WGN morning shows.

@TheBreadmonkey This guy looks like a walking Radio Shack catalog.
@TheBreadmonkey
And then single piece of tech that eventually replaced all those lovely items was turned into a nasty piece of shit
@TheBreadmonkey Everything in this picture can now fit in your pocket
@TheBreadmonkey
