Mike Brock is my hero

https://lemmy.world/post/44793912

So glad ddiiggss’ reply was there. That was crucial to this conversation.
How else could we possibly know that it was funny?
IKR, I would have had no idea otherwise. I am still trying to figure out how to laugh at it.
Loud, apparently

The way we always do nowadays!

he seems like the kinda guy who would unironically drop a “reddit… assemble!”
Wtf??? Cringe! Downvote army, assemble!

That lady who got all over social media who voted for Trump three times and admitted that Trump was an idiot and she was an idiot for voting for him?

That’s sufficient.

They can get in the tent and vote D in the general all day…

The problem was neoliberals tried to court hypothetically cross over voters at the expense of the Dem voting base. That’s fucking stupid and a problem. One that the voting members of the DNC rectified a year ago.

But if someone voted trump in the last three general elections and want to vote D in the next, why would anyone talk them out of it?

Let em fucking do it. Just don’t listen to them when they try to guide the party.

They’re gullible and untrustworthy. DINOs.

I don’t give a shit.

Just don’t listen to them when they try to guide the party.

They can vote D all day and I’ll even thank them for voting.

Are you honestly saying you dont want gullible untrustworthy people voting for your candidate in an American presidential election?!

Look at the fucking voter pool bub. If either party had zero of those voters, they’d never win an election.

What are you trusting them with?

For that matter, what does welcoming vs not welcoming even refer to?

Between the post itself, and then the comments… it really looks like the illusion of political discourse has completely replaced political discourse.

Has anyone actually said anything? Has any point been made? Supported? Refuted?

I think the idea is the Democratic party should not be platforming “former” Republicans who are only just now coming around to our side after proudly voting for Trump in the last three elections and supporting their racist and fascist agenda. They are, at their very core, the same disingenuous and spiteful people who are leaving a sinking ship.

What people do in the ballot box is their own business, but the best way for Republicans who truly do feel like they were betrayed or deceived by Trump is not for them to apologize and prostrate all day, but for them to take actions that set the course to make things right again. Performatively switching teams and getting championed by the left as being some kind of noble spirit sends the same kind of distasteful message as Kamala Harris and Liz Cheney going up on stage together.

…I hope Mike Brock is your hero for setting himself for such an epic self-own.

Indeed, lol.

Mike Brock set himself on fire in protest.

none of those people come out of that interaction looking good tbh
Yeah it feels to me that both are searching for a "aha gotcha" kind of online win so they can then turn to their respective followers and say "see? See how they are?". Neither is productive and both are examples of a kind of micro-clout chasing behavior that reduces the very real discussions about very real politics to being "gotcha's" etc.

I have no idea who either of these people are, but both of them make me immediately want to never see their names attached to anything ever again.

Thanks for the heads up, OP.

The one who came out looking better made this rotatingsandwiches.com
Rotating Sandwiches

that's it

Rotating Sandwiches
hmmm…gyro on a pita…

That’s glorious!

Bookmarked.

Does anyone have more information about the odd sandwich with cilantro coating the outside of the sandwich but not actually in the sandwich? It almost looks like a dessert sandwich except for the cilantro part…
Looks like the filling is nothing but thick-cut slabs of onion.
Zooming in, that looks like fish in between the bread, so probably not sweet at all.
Oh man I thought that was cheese. Yeah, that’s a big slice of raw onion, huh?

Thanks!

OK. So mayo, onion, a little salt, and parsley.

I like all of those things but usually on top of other things. But I’ll try anything once.

The file name for the image is james-beard-onion-sandwich.gif.
By the way, since it turns out that I often make pretty much the same sandwich (just without the greenery), I can report that it benefits remarkably from grinding just a bit of MSG into it.

Those pictures need to be links to either a recipe or an order page.
A better looking pile of shit is still a pile of shit.
Good fucking god. The first gif, converted to mp4, takes 660 KB instead of 8.4 MB.

Yeah I found this Brock’s Substack😬and the first thing I read is him wanting to nuke China if they invade Taiwan.

Stop giving this guy visibility on Lemmy.

Agreed. Reading the posted thread gave me incurable brain rot.
I’m confused. Is the goal ideological purity or helpful results?
Helpful results? In MY leftist politics? Nah, the goal here appears to be to win Internet points.
Hexbear has left the chat
don’t worry, there are plenty of anarchists in the rest of lemmy willing to fight you over internet points about how all imperfect candidates are the same and voting for any of them is equally bad
There’s also anarchists who advocate voting as a form of harm reduction! We live in a fun world 😁
That’s true, #notallanarchists, but reasonable people aren’t usually the type to fight over internet points in general
So… a status-dominance game.

The goal is for people to recognize what has happened in recent history and stop repeating it.

Corporate Democrats and big corporations will continue to say that the left should reach out to the center and steal those votes. They’ll say that because they hate leftist policies and not because they think the strategy would actually work. But lots of people listen to them.

I believe that if Bernie had been the candidate in 2016, he would have won. I believe that there are enough American voters who actually want leftist policies out there and that a leftist candidate can win the White House. But I know that it’s hard to get people to try. And that explains the predictable losses in 2016 and 2024.

I’m not sure what the context of their discussion is but I interpreted it as being sympathetic to people who realize they were duped by conservatives. But there’s a big difference between whether we should accept former maga voters and whether we should compromise with fascist politicians.
The party can accept them, I won’t
The way this is worded sounds like Mike is saying he would accept MAGA “defectors” and wants to call out those who disagree. 🤨
Fuck me. Maybe I’m retarded?!
I fixed it. Thank you for clarifying for my degenerate eyes.

really? It feels the exact opposite.

That he would fight anyone saying they should accept former MAGAts.

Interesting how it can be taken either way. Wonder what the true meaning was.

If there’s maybe earlier context, like a previous argument where he’s clearly stating his position, it would help.
It took me a few read-throughs to get both interpretations, but I feel like the post is mostly in favor of not welcoming Republican defectors, and he wants to debate people who think that’s a good idea (it isn’t).

You don’t have to trust them. But if you do policy that’s in their actual material interest, they’ll vote for you.

So voters? Sure. Politicians? Hard pass.

Like if Margorie Taylor Greene up and says she’s a leftist now, then no. I’d call the easiest bullshit on that one.

But some chud who is convinced to vote for a progressive or even socialist candidate because they want healthcare? Deal.
