@[email protected] I read that as "Hello dishcloths!" and wondered if that was a new term of endearment for us makers! 😂 #MakersHour

@MakersHour Evening all!

I've spent most of this week absorbing driving lesson videos with the full mega intensity of an autistic hyperfocus, so that's pretty much it and also my head hurts.

But I've made it onto the edging of my latest knitting project, and there's not much left to do, so maybe a finish by next week.

#MakersHour

@thegiddystitcher
Learning to drive is hard, especially nowadays.

Good luck with it.

#MakersHour

@MakersHour A1 Hello 👋 old friends, new friends and dishcloths. I have been busy this week but not with craft. I have, though, been learning to draw which is fun! I’m also a bit under the weather so I’m trying to take it easy. #MakersHour
@Janet_52square @MakersHour I've never managed to stick at learning to draw, so am living vicariously through you lately. Hope you feel better soon!

@MakersHour

A1 Been working mostly on fixing the plumbing for the makerspace. By refactoring the existing plumbing, I've managed to make space for a sink for a new pottery area.

#MakersHour

@quixoticgeek
Well done. Making space in a work area is always a good thing.

#MakersHour

@quixoticgeek @MakersHour pottery peeps will love the sink!! Pretty much essential for them.
@Janet_52square @MakersHour Yep, we're looking forward to the improvement in capabilities. This weekend I need to build the settling tank to go under the sink.
@quixoticgeek @MakersHour New! Pottery! Area!!!! I'm so happy for you.

@MakersHour

Hello all. What have I been doing this week? I've been so busy I can't remember...

I baked a cake or two, did more clearing out of stuff, and did a lot of peopling. It's been fun, but I'd like to stop for a bit please.

#MakersHour

@suearcher
Peopleing is hard.

I hope you get the rest you need.

#MakersHour

@suearcher @MakersHour Sounds busy! I have had to stop … never easy for me!

@Janet_52square @MakersHour

Yeah, enforced stopping isn't so much fun. I hope you feel better soon.

But hey - you have walls!

@suearcher @MakersHour Walls are underrated. So many people just lean on them or take them for granted. Not round here, we celebrate them!

@Janet_52square @MakersHour

When shall we have International Celebrate Your Walls day?

@suearcher @Janet_52square
Yes, we could have ice cream!

#MakersHour

@MakersHour @Janet_52square

Excellent idea.

Dydd Rhyngwladol Dathlwch Eich Waliau Hapus!

@suearcher @MakersHour Ugh, peopling! Sounds like you both deserve a break tbh

@thegiddystitcher @MakersHour

The peopling was all pleasant, I must add. Just a lot of it.

Nothing much planned for the weekend, so hopefully we'll just get on with clearing, and have a bit of down time.

@MakersHour hello #MakersHour! Another semi-random afternoon appearance for me.

A1: This week, I've been making a new PCB design for #emfcamp, which I have finalized and sent off for fab along with a couple other boards I'm reordering.

And lots of other making projects that are creaking along. Hopefully some will move faster now that this task is cleared.

It's a ticking clock here to do outside projects before it gets scorching hot.

@grajohnt @MakersHour semi-random is cool. I am on mostly-random but hoping to reduce randomness shortly…

@Janet_52square @MakersHour I have that ambition, but as it's 3pm here (but normally 2pm because were in the 'twilight zone' between time changes), it's always a busy time.

Plans always spoil my good intentions.

@grajohnt
Oh those designs look really good.

#MakersHour

@MakersHour and a huge thanks to @jarkman for the inspiration on the silkscreen graphics, so I could get the board to the point where I could convince myself to order it.

Q1: Hello fellow dishcloths*! Tell us what you’ve been doing this week.

A1: Hello! Two things last weekend! Look at me doing stuff!

@Andy @MakersHour this is lovely - it suits the clock really well.

@Andy
Excellent!

Those red lit lamps look quite eerie.

#MakersHour

@MakersHour hi, Maaike here. This week I've been doing largely the same as last week: stitching on my biro shirt for the 100 day project, knitting a sock (still the same sock). I also did a little weaving project for my textile art challenge, and some light embroidery.

By the way, in Dutch there's an expression 'weak as a dishcloth' for feeling under the weather, so this seems like a very appropriate term of endearment for some makers this week 🙂 I hope you all feel better soon!
#MakersHour

@Stratski
I have heard that socks take a lot of work and effort, so not surprised you are still on the same sock.

#MakersHour

@MakersHour Well, according to my mum socks are a nice and quick project that takes about one evening per sock 😅 My one sock has taken three months so far...
It's not even really that difficult, I just get bored after a few rounds and switch to something else.
@Stratski @MakersHour oh that’s a nice expression. That’s me tonight.

@Janet_52square @Stratski @MakersHour

Yes, I like that expression too.

I think a lot of us feel a bit wrung out at the moment too!

@Stratski @MakersHour I just realised in Spanish you can say it too. Kind of like "I've become a dishcloth".

@MakersHour *waves* sorry... Kevin here, running a bit late :)

I've been playing with LED matrices again this week.

Now I'm going to speed read what other people have been up to!

#MakersHour

@diyelectromusic @MakersHour Hi Kevin! Nice to *see* you again!

@diyelectromusic
OK, Just sit at the back of the class until you know where we're all up to, then join in when you're ready.

#MakersHour

@MakersHour I always lurk at the back of the class :)

@diyelectromusic
I was always a front seat near the teacher swat.

In hindsight it was also because I couldn't hear the teacher over the noise of the class, nor see with all the visual distractions.

#MakersHour

@MakersHour Hello #DishclothHour, Footleg here. This week has been dominated by having to completely empty my office/makers den so it could be painted after the crack repairs were done on the walls. A lot of stuff to move, and now I have a bright clean empty room I have to make the difficult decisions about what is not going to be allowed back into the room as it was way too cluttered. #MakersHour

@drfootleg
Sometimes, having your workspace completey emptied is a great way to reassess what you really need in there, and where.
A fresh start to it all.

Good luck with it.

#MakersHour

@MakersHour Such a deep and challenging question: What do I need in there? Maybe a good one for a future #MakersHour?
I try to apply the 5 year rule. If I've not touched it for 5 years, do I really need to keep it? I try to only put things in the attic that will not end up violating the 5 year rule. Exceptions are archive materials (old maps, publications which featured my work, some of my Dad's tools I inherited last year). I struggle to let go of electronics products I paid for but never used.
@drfootleg @MakersHour I have projects I've been working on for longer than 5 years...
@quixoticgeek @drfootleg @MakersHour I admit NOTHING! 🤪
@theolodian @drfootleg @MakersHour i have projects that are old enough to vote...
@quixoticgeek @drfootleg @MakersHour I don’t think that I can match that, but many of mine do feel as if they are from a previous life.
@theolodian @quixoticgeek @MakersHour Ah, letting go of past projects (whether finished or unfinished) is an even harder level question then just parts and stuff I've bought or acquired. That would be Q3, if Q2 was what stuff do you really need.

@drfootleg
I am gratefully waiting for your set of questions, when you have them ready.
Thank you.

@theolodian @quixoticgeek @MakersHour

@drfootleg @MakersHour welcome to the world of walls! They need celebrating 🥳 . Ours look like this ⬇️ so too soon to put things back in the room.
@Janet_52square @MakersHour My freshly painted study/maker den.
@drfootleg @MakersHour I see the temptation right there … empty shelves are so alluring…
@MakersHour A1. I've had a high school intern at work so I haven't managed anything else. But she had fun learning a bit of CAD and 3D printing the first thing she's ever designed from scratch! "just" a vase, but parametric with clean tangents and everything, so I was very proud.

@MakersHour A1. I keep being tempted to go back to dishcloths! Because embroidering a corner is an easy portable project.

But in this very spring weather week I've been trying to restart my newsboy cap pattern from Sachi's Studio.

Q1: Hello fellow dishcloths*! Tell us what you’ve been doing this week.

Outside of the usual seasonally seedling raising (soooo many chillies) and food making: mainly car fettling... finally put in the big order for parts to replace all the suspension, the drive shafts, and other related ancillaries.

I am basically making a car, or as @ahnlak put it: The Car of Theseus.
