Google Search is now using AI to replace headlines, https://www.theverge.com/tech/896490/google-replace-news-headlines-in-search-canary-coal-mine-experiment.

So. Google is changing the page titles listed in their search results because they believe it can provide more traffic.

Users have no indication the title is not the original one. If Google rewrites a title to something stupid, it will be credited to the site, not Google.

Google is violating the site’s copyright by doing so. It’s an immense breach in the remaining trust users may have in this search engine.

Google Search is now using AI to replace headlines

Google is beginning to replace news headlines in its search results with ones that are AI-generated. After AI clickbait nonsense in its Google Discover news feed, it’s starting to mess with headlines in the “10 blue links” too.

@hywan

I wish more people who walk away from Google. It's not like there aren't alternatives to search either. Not enough humans are even awake to what's going on.
@hywan "Siri, give me the biggest and best example of enshittifcation"

@hywan

I never expected to be saying this, but I'm begining to wonder if it's possible to block Google from listing your website...

At least for now, Google still respects the robots.txt for its search engine.

@hywan

@Cyclist @hywan yes you can. For now Google still respects the robots.txt convention/standard. So you just add the proper identifiers to it and you won't appear on their search engine.
My personal website for example is not indexed on Google

@hywan
DON'T USE GOOGLE. Period.

@hywan I am so glad I stopped using Google search more than a decade ago. Just wish that my ISP email was not Powered by Google and my university email by Microsoft
@hywan Google seem to want to put AI on every network packet, it's insane
@hywan I worked in print for a few years and i got no sympathy for newspapers that lazily relied on search for the vast majority of their traffic and revenue. They then repeated the same thing with socialmedia. They ignored their subscribers and now have to sleep in the bed they made. I know thats not great for society but at some point they need to learn.
