Daring Fireball
@daringfireball tap and hold on the AppStore icon and go direct to Updates - I’ve done this forever from my homescreen, way faster.
@pauls If you're gonna tell all of Mastodon, you better get busy. 😋
@Sonofasailor Haha! It’s one of those things where I didn’t realise not everyone did it the quick way!

@pauls @daringfireball this is the way.

Also a regular reminder of me missing 3D Touch.

@NitP @daringfireball 3D Touch was so good, you’ve just made me depressed thinking about it again…
@pauls @NitP @daringfireball 3D Touch was indeed a good when you hit a touch target with a proper power, but a mess when you press and nothing happens. Do you miss the target? Do you press weak? Or app just don’t worry about supporting 3D Touch at all? Good idea, but bad feedback and bad enforcement. (Reciting S.J. from memory, “if we allow mouse support to be optional on Mac — no one will support we because why bother?)
@nosenkow Maybe, but anywhere with large touch targets like each tweet in Tweetbot where you could tap and hold for a normal context menu and also Force Touch to perform other actions was just so useful.
@pauls Came here to comment this to @gruber, but you beat me to it! I've been doing this forever. (Upgrading my device right now, so I hope/assume it still works in 26.4?)
@leoncowle @pauls @gruber This is the only way I access the App Store because this is the only thing I ever need to do in there App Store.
@leoncowle still works don't worry!
@daringfireball doesn't mention the most egregious change (for UK users), Apple imposed the age verification at install/update (that previously beta2 saw cited as a mistake) for the release version … gonna be a lot of cheesed off users as the law is not actually in place yet in UK, its proposed but not implemented and US style verification (credit card/license, etc) doesn't really tally with UK expectations
@daringfireball I’m afraid “Bug fixes and performance improvements” is how you avoid having your update rejected by App Review.

@daringfireball

It has always been two taps away from me (before v26.4) by long-pressing the App Store-icon and choosing 'Updates' from the pop-up menu.

@daringfireball For people who also update their apps manually: this shortcut will bring you directly to the Updates section. And more importantly, you don’t have to see the ads in the Today tab, which often, for valid reasons other than capitulation I’m sure, shows ads for “Truth Social.”

I put this on my Home Screen instead of the real App Store, with a nice icon of course

@zhhz which icon are you using? I currently have the iOS 18 icon set
