Basically any #advance in the #public understanding of #autism in my lifetime (at least on the part of #NT folk) seems to amount to,

"whoa, cool #FunFact, now go away so you don't complicate my oggling at this new fact about you by actually being here".

#ActuallyAutistic #NDLiberation

They want to pat themselves on the back for their #appreciation of us, but they don't actually want us around. They don't want to #change anything they do. They don't want us to get the things they get from #society. And now it's #popular to treat *us* like #reactionaries for saying so.

In their #ideal world, we would stop being born. "Allies" say they'd fight that, but the most we can expect, especially from #libs, is a useless letter to their #senator.

The #AutisticLiberation #movement has definitely grown. Over the past decade, I've seen the #left go from totally ignoring it to at least somewhat caring (even if still not nearly enough, a #rant for another time). I've seen the movement itself go from very #fringe and #insular to #intersectional, #radical, and almost a #household name.

What I haven't seen at all is NTs engaging with it, except to #attack or #CoOpt it.

@AstroMancer5G truth. and they love to weaponize our existence to use against RFKjr on vaccines, but won't actually do anything to help us against him. it's like society has a big blind spot when it comes to us (autistic adults). and as always, we're either too low functioning to get any agency, or too high functioning to get any support. one good thing i've seen lately is some actually decent articles have been getting published, like i'm starting to think Psych Today hired a new editor.
