J.K. Rowling uses personal wealth to fund anti-trans org

This is where "Harry Potter" profits are going.

Advocate.com
@vantablack There is no ethical way to engage with Harry Potter material. Sucks if you like it, but you'll have to blame that shithead woman for it.
@yora @vantablack I'm sure there are other wizards out there.

@vantablack What do you mean "stop"? Bold of you to assume I found HP stuff interesting at all. ๐Ÿ™‚

But yeah, Rowling and her defenders should just STFU, they are FULL OF SHIT about trans ppl. Many commenters already debunked her very well. More people should listen to trans people. I can recommend!

If the right of a billionaire to extract royalties for work done years ago is more important than a trans person receiving essential healthcare, something is going very very wrong.

@Wuzzy
This giude was clearly directed at Harry Potter fans. It's in the headline. I'm pretty sure nobody assumed anything about you.
@jnfingerle @Wuzzy I think it was a joke actually...

@vantablack "But! But I'm a mugglethwump! Professor deebleforps in House Gerbeeborb! :(

Can't you trans people see that Thatchytom Widdlebroom is so much more important? My childhood nostalgia! Your security as a minority in the UK can wait!"

@vantablack Me to people who are still supporters of J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter after she came out as a bigot and sexist P.O.S.:
@vantablack But the game, Hogwarts Legacy, is really, really incredibly good. When is the last time anyone played a non-indie title made by actual people, you know, human beings with a beating heart ?! ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ
@adrianmorales @vantablack the blood libel game?

@elexia Please, I'm begging you to know the difference between the Fediverse and that other place whose name shall not be spoken. Everyone and everything is treated fairly here.

Anyway, it's a good game. Play it and see for yourself. It was made by talented people who genuinely love the HP universe without any of the trappings of modern gaming.

@adrianmorales I have no obligation to play nice with you when you're promoting a game with a not subtle antisemitic theme supporting the franchise of a transphobe who gives her money to organizations that seek to excise people like me from society.
gonna be real with you, I couldn't give less of a shit if the antisemitism game is well made. there's lots of games that are well made that don't have horrific politics and don't support our enemy. if you go out of your way to promote this specific game for whatever reason you have to expect pushback. hiding behind "apolitical" civility to try and make the impolite angry trannies out as the bad ones isn't gonna make you many friends here.

@elexia It's not about some video game. There are lots of awesome, useful things out in the world made by shitty people or companies. Should we burn down the works of Picasso just because the guy was an arrogant prick that looked down on others? I'm just offering a different point of view, that's it, please understand.

Also, I don't think Harry Potter should determine whether or not we can become friends. We're different people, but we can still be friends.

@adrianmorales except Rowling is still using her wealth and influence to harm trans people. and yeah it's not just some video game, it's one with clearly antisemitic themes that you refuse to even address. you coming into someone's mentions to promote this unprompted makes you distinctly a person we would never be friends with.
I'm not sure what your deal is, if you're just some troll or if you have a deep need for people to accept your problematic consumer decisions, but you're getting no absolution from us and we won't engage further.

@elexia Replying to my post was just as unprompted, but did I say anything? I'm not saying it's your fault, of course. Mastodon doesn't have the best privacy options.

Anyway, you're never going to win with this Us Vs. Them mentality. Learn to think for yourself. Be your own person, and please look at things from the perspective of others.

It's OK if you don't want to be friends. Have a nice day. Take care.

@adrianmorales @elexia Adrian reads like a motherfucker who thinks because he doesn't say slurs or curses that means he's "nice".

Its not the words, it's the content of them, and what I see here is coward shit. Someone who wants to justify his continued adoration of hate content because it feels good when he consumes it.

"replying to me is just as unprompted" Okay bitch no it isn't, you fucking @'d the OP, *you* came in *here* with *your bullshit* and are rightly being told to fuck off. Now fuck off.

@Squika @adrianmorales @elexia His passive aggressive bullshit is infuriating, and his pathetic defence doesnโ€™t even work. The devs already get paid, and money will go to the execs and that fucking bitch. And execs donโ€™t deserve the money either. Those same execs have shown time and again that a game being successful wonโ€™t stop them from closing a studio if it will raise the share price.

@adrianmorales @vantablack ah yeah, the game that finally touches a topic the other material tried to avoid talking about too much, slavery in the magic world, and tasks you with.. upholding slavery and crushing any attempt of liberation?

Made with all their heart, indeed.

@vantablack Stop watching/paying for HBO.
@vantablack

And please stop telling everyone to pirate the books/movies/games. You *do not need to read/watch/play them* at all!
@2something @vantablack If you have to, if you feel the need to, pirate it though.
@ZoidbergForPresident @vantablack But you *don't* need to.
@2something @vantablack If you want to have it but without financing transphobia worldwide, you DO have to. :)

@ZoidbergForPresident @vantablack

If you want to have it Please see Vanta's first post in this thread.

@2something @vantablack Said post is besides the point, I was answering to yours.
@ZoidbergForPresident @vantablack

It is very much
not beside the point: the whole point is that you should not be reading, watching, or playing Harry Potter. There's no good reason for you to "pirate" Harry Potter media when you shouldn't be reading/watching/playing it at all.
@2something @vantablack Sorry I did not think you were a moron telling people what to do and what to like, my mistake.

@2something @vantablack @ZoidbergForPresident

On a similar note, if you ever feel the need to have a red baseball cap that says "make America great again" with a matching Confederate battle flag armband, remember to make them yourself!
Why might someone want to do such a thing? um, er, ah, um, you see, well, er, uh,

@[email protected] Thank you: you expressed what I was trying to say much more clearly.
@2something @vantablack When they came out I get why they were so popular. But now? There are SO MANY better options!!
@vantablack
Since you may be (rightfully so) in the top 10 harry potter and jk rowling haters on fedi: I've got the first three books (before I fully realized how much of a fucker rowling was), what are some fun things I could do to them????
@rotbrain @vantablack Do you or a friend have a pet with a litter box? Or a cage that needs lining?

@rotbrain I sadly bought a full set of the books before realising how bad JKR is. I can't think of anything "fun" to do with them. I'd consider burning them but I don't have a fireplace or any other good place to do that, and would prefer not to add that pollution to the atmosphere anyway.

My intention is to sell them to a local second-hand book store, where I know the owner is at least aware of JKR being problematic. He'll resell them anyway, but I figure a small business profiting off reselling those books isn't the worst thing; at least JKR doesn't get more money for them.
@vantablack

@kodiacbear @vantablack
Actually yeah I'll probably just do that, since me and my mom are strapped for cash, and they'll maybeee sell for a little more since it's got maps and other lore stuff in them

@vantablack Thank you for this. I love how clear it is, and how it refuses to "tone down" or waffle in any way.

No. Just fucking stop engaging with everything JKR produces. Permanently. It's quite simple.

@vantablack I wonโ€™t even pirate the game because I am so utterly disgusted with the author.

@vantablack

The amusing thing lost on J/K is if you replace wizard with transgender, the story of Harry Potter doesn't change much. It's still about a young boy coming to grips with being different in a world where "normal" people don't believe he is what he says he is, and the community of those who do still has infighting over which letter is more important.

@vantablack

Thanks for posting something that gives me the opportunity, nay, the DELIGHT of blocking anybody who tries to fucking "...WELL, AKSHUALLY" about it.

I'm going to come back periodically and see if anybody else offers me that little delight.

@vantablack I wish more people would write fan fiction that Hermione is trans. You could work it into the story so easily.
@vantablack what do we do with old books, donate so someone wonโ€™t buy new?
