me: my childhood was relatively normal, I mean it was weird Christian cult shit at times but it was mostly normal

also me: wait y'all don't know that half the Christians in the US think that nuking the middle east is an important first step in bringing about their desired apocalypse where Jesus will send all the people they hate to hell forever??? Y'all don't know they're serious about that? Huh

@junebug I did know that, but only because I'm too online

the average EU citizen is blissfully unaware

@junebug it's really hard to believe, because it's so absurd. it's especially hard for non-americans who get most of their impression from america from tv, movies and the like. th whole world eats american propaganda night and day and while a lot of it isn't meant to push a specifically american agenda, it does paint an idea of what america is that puts christian fundamentalists in the margins. few want to believe the greatest superpower is so violently unhinged
@junebug "Well, we all hope Jimmy's dad comes home, but Desert Storm has to happen for Jesus to Reign" is something I remember being told at a friend's house in childhood and the other adults just nodding along like that Made Sense 😬
@junebug it's super specific to US Christians and sounds insane when stated on its face so it's hard to convince people whatsoever despite it absolutely being true. I there's a lot of Christian beliefs that are insane and the fact that people respect them at all is itself bad

@junebug

Ah. Good times in Lubbock.
