@evacide
ohohh i still remember how big an issue it was when Germanys administration bought data about tax evaders…
https://www1.wdr.de/archiv/jahresrueckblick/steuercd342.html
(but even here i am pretty sure this level of protection is reserved for tax evaders - if they do it to identify trans people, people with mental illness etc there will be nobody to complain… yes that kind of society we have become)
ok not directly data brokers but a case where the state acts similarly buying data they otherwise are not allowed to aquire
@evacide It seems reasonable to -- at a *minimum* -- regulate them to the same extent as the OG data brokers, Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion.
But making that business illegal would also be fine with me.
@evacide It's starting to happen over here in the UK too - getting a lot of targeted marketing shite in my mail - contacted one this morning to get my data 'supressed' so it wont be used again.
Even my local authority has handed total management of council tax data to a data bank, which includes voting registration...currently selling said data to debt collection agencies, who then use it to dig even deeper into your data, adding data points as it goes.
Absolutely they should be destroyed!
Can we also add to that all the major tech companies? They need to go as well.
