https://github.com/nextcloud/richdocuments/pull/5516

Since the NextCloud Office maintainers have not taken into account the arguments against their decision to use Microsoft OOXML as the default format, I submitted a pull request with code that sets OpenDocument as the default format:
https://github.com/nextcloud/richdocuments/pull/5516
I strongly encourage you to retweet, upvote, and comment on this PR, which will be harder to ignore than a “resolved” issue.

Edit: The maintainer (who is clearly terrible at managing comm) has closed the PR and directed people to the issue, which remains open for votes and comments↴

Maintainers answered: they will not approve the feature and will stick to OOXML, because (imaginary, IMHO) users would "complain".

I think this is a big mistake, and that their very real (angry) users are going to actually complain.

@nojhan
Seems really a stupid move when the biggest European country just decided to avoid OOXML in favor of the previous default ODF.

Technically, it also stupid since the internal model of the document of the suite IS the previous ODF format so OOXML will be converted at input and output with loss of course.

@Beurt True. The code reflects that, it's full of workarounds for OOXML.

@nojhan i was very confused when after the first installation it created .docx document for me. I thought I have misconfigured something. It was the first time I even encountered the OOXML as a term. I didn't know that's the setting I had to change. It took me two days before I figured it out, (also because internet search is so enshittified now, I was getting only irrelevant results)

@nojhan @tdforg @libreoffice @nextcloud Not all heroes wear capes.
@Wuzzy @tdforg @libreoffice @nextcloud But most of vilains refuses to debate… (maintainers closed the PR).
@nojhan Well, looks like it has already been shut down...
@ROllerozxa This is a call to act, IMHO. Note that they fear complaints from users. Just saying.
@nojhan @tdforg @libreoffice @nextcloud #nextcloud seems to often not care about its users and makes illogical choices. It is starting to become a liability whereas it was once an asset.
@EF @tdforg @libreoffice @nextcloud It’s very often the case that engineers do not understand/care about commercial strategies. And so far only engineers have been involved in the debate. Maybe their "internal discussion" will reach someone aware of what having an open-source community really means.

@nojhan @tdforg @libreoffice @nextcloud feels more like a corporate strategy where a direction has been agreed (due to influance, money... ) as the "engineer" won't engage unless those asking the question are a large paying coroorate customer.

The respomses recieved in the past were highly dismissive and if am entity is not even willing to listen and disciss...
