The LNP didn’t just lose seats in SA — they handed them over.
By preferencing Pauline Hanson’s One Nation ahead of Labor, they turbocharged the very party now eating their vote.

Result? One Nation outpolls the Liberals (22% vs 19%) and replaces them as the main opposition in parts of the state.
You can’t chase the far right without feeding it.
Short term tactics. Long term extinction.

Liberal party preferences handed seats to One Nation in South Australian election, analysts say

Pauline Hanson’s party will have at least two seats in the upper house and at least one and likely more in the lower house

@mojo I'm not sure I agree that they shouldn't have put ON above Labor.
It always pisses me off when Labor puts the Greens last - they're supposed to be on the same side!
So yeah I think if you're a conservative party of course you're going to preference conservative minor parties... if you're going to lose your seat, better to lose to someone on the same side of the spectrum surely?

@reallyedbrown I get the instinct — but this isn’t the same thing as Labor preferencing the Greens.
Labor and the Greens compete within the same broad voter base. The Liberals just boosted a party that’s actively replacing them.
By preferencing One Nation, the Liberal Party of Australia didn’t “keep it in the family” — they accelerated their own decline.

You don’t hand your voters to a rival and expect them back later.
That’s not strategy. That’s self-sabotage.

@reallyedbrown @mojo For Albo, it's personal, I suspect. A lifetime of sycophants who kept telling him he's the leftwing messiah, and his (formerly safe) seat is on a long term trend.

I've seen rusted-on, workplace union rep types outright claim Greens candidates, *indigenous* Greens Candidates whose family have lived in a seat all their lives, should "go out to the bush" instead of "stealing" a "Labor Seat". These are just to-the-manor-born entitled nepobabies wearing a different team shirt.
