Three Arctic Hare at the cabin tonight. #CabinLife #Nunavut

@NunavutBirder

Hare mean are arctic foxes, too?

@TheEddieShow I’m not sure if there’s a typo there.

@NunavutBirder

You see foxes as well?

@TheEddieShow Yes. More Red Foxes than Arctic of late. Watched a gorgeous dark Cross Fox last Sunday.

@NunavutBirder

the dark cross is new fox to me. gorgeous!

@TheEddieShow Has a den up the canyon from the cabin but I’m not sure if it’s a winter den or breeding den.
@NunavutBirder They're big floofers.
@NunavutBirder I saw several in the wilds, when working on some documentary filming up in Arctic regions, many years back. I never really realized how large the hares are up there. They were awesome to watch 😊

@NunavutBirder

Oh, lovely, these photographs bring a big smile to my face.

I quickly looked up Arctic Hares; they seem to be really interesting creatures.

That piece of cardboard must have some special appeal (insulation?), Arctic Hare Number 1 clearlly has chosen to sit on it rather than anywhere else!

#ArcticHares

@NunavutBirder I used to see those when I was assigned to Thule Air Base (Pittufk). I used to mess with some of the new guys by convincing them the rabbits were more dangerous than the Archies πŸ˜…
@NunavutBirder Oh, I'd love to see them one day. Is it a usual occurence to see them close to houses?
@CatherineBabault no. See them in town all the time. These are at my cabin and they spend time sitting under it regularly v
@NunavutBirder So if I ever go to Nunavut one day, chances are I could see them too. :) I'd love to photograph them and other wildlife there. And the landscape!

@NunavutBirder Thanks Clare. Wow, beautiful photos! It motivates me to look into a potential trip there one day: planning, time of year, cost, etc.
Another thing that I find interesting is the migratory birds that look different in the Arctic than when they winter here on Vancouver Island.
Thanks for sharing your photos, it makes me dream. :)
@CatherineBabault it is an amazing part of the world. Should you be looking at coming we have a community owned outfitting company in Arctic Bay. Arctic Bay Adventures. It was created when I was Economic Development Officer.
@NunavutBirder I saw one when I was on my winter trekking in Greenland. Lovely creatures!
