Pteryx the Puzzle Secretary@pivic I'm starting to get convinced that the push to embed AI into everything is less about "helping" users and more about them getting to talk naturally to a prompt that feeds directly into training the model that will represent them in the great new reality 2.0 system...or just to express like/dislike over advert approaches.

@CmykStudent @pivic One thing I did not mention is that the plug-ins are from a third-party, which is a very fair point.

Is it the case, or is it just that random dudes are coding third-party AI plugins for GIMP , that have nothing to do with the GIMP project ?
supertobi@corpsmoderne @su_liam @pivic Hi! No, we're not developing genAI plug-ins (you could argue that filters and such are "AI" in the non-genAI sense). We just have a public API that anyone can use to add on to GIMP.
If they want to make plug-ins that use genAI for their own workflows or to share with others, that's their perogative, but it's not connected to GIMP itself.

The more serious side of this is the hundreds of billions (possibly trillions) of dollars sunk into AI industry is inflating a market bubble, and when it inevitably pops there will be a global economic downturn due to the realization that all of that money has no intrinsic value and unlike housing bubble of 2008 or tulips of the 1637 there's no material thing that is left with any use. A pure speculative market bubble.

november@cavyherd @pivic GPT-3 released a little over 5 years ago. That got the public talking about it and got companies pushing very heavily for it. And yet I'm not sure if I've seen any job other than propaganda spreading and bad customer service actually automated by an LLM. The technology isn't really in its infancy anymore, I'm really not convinced it's going to take over the world at this rate
