i would have thought that the railways would be protected as critical infrastructure (or at least as a "dont go here you fucking idiot" type deal)
@LinaBlue @RinaVolpina @kouett @rail That's more like marine phraseology. UK railway telephone protocol would be to pick up the platform telephone and say something like:
> Anytown signaller.
> This is an emergency call. $role $yourname at $location. Someone has fallen on the tracks at platform $number. Please block the line immediately
Not a railway professional but my partner worked somewhere that did e-learning for Network Rail and that was in their portfolio somewhere!
@LinaBlue @RinaVolpina @kouett @rail oh look a concise example of doing it right:

and a less concise real-world example of doing it wrong:

I am here for the rail industry fighting back against anti-transit propaganda.

British Transport Police aren't really there for anyone's safety, and aren't an important part of the solution to the posed problem, so that was a nice touch.
All undermined when "the board" realizes they can save a few bucks by replacing the human with AI safety agent.
Fun little tidbit; as I was on the train today, it suddenly halted quite rapidly. Few seconds later we get an announcement explaining that there may have been kids sighted along the tracks.
This is one of the busier tracks in the are. Every. Single. Train. Stopped.
It wasn't until it was confirmed -in person- the tracks were clear that we, at low speed initially, continued onwards.
Did the delay suck? Yes.
Did the passengers mind? Compared to the alternative; no.
@trantion @undefined_variable @kouett Actually ETCS is deployed in the Thameslink core as well.
Apparently Network Rail is also starting to put it in up the ECML which surprised me (I would have thought it would cost too much). I think there are a few other places where its either planned to be installed, being installed, or already active.
