Brain Connectivity Declines with AI Use
EEG scans revealed a systematic scaling down of neural connectivity in the brain with increasing reliance on external tools:

LLM use resulted in under-engagement of critical attention and visual processing networks, especially in Session 4 when participants tried to write without AI.

Wanted to also point out that this is illustrated with AI. As an artist, I am deeply concerned, not so much with the taking away of potential work for artists, but with AI's takeover of our expectations; of the way we see illustration and art. The way we SEE, in general. This article very ironically is part of the problem.
...and this is the actual study, if you're interested: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2506.08872
@emilyvanartist Didn't stop the researchers from including a completely unnecessary, genAI-created slop picture. Despicable.
@ticho to be fair, that's an article written about the research paper. It's ridiculous indeed but the actual paper was properly illustrated. Here's the paper: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2506.08872
@emilyvanartist Fair enough, I shouldn't have assumed the image is from the study itself, even though there were the scientists' names and a plausibly looking illustration. :)
@ticho The illustration on the left did come from the actual paper. Maybe I just should have shared the paper to begin with. Honestly I'm not even sure the article is written by a human.
@emilyvanartist We certainly do live in interesting times, huh? :)
@ticho That's exactly what I was thinking as I wrote that last reply. Basically, in sharing the potentially-AI-generated article about the detriment that AI is to our minds, judgment, etc... I proved their point.
