I can ’t help but think when I read these stories on the road conditions that, if you can’t ride according to the conditions and are not able to avoid a couple of potholes, you probably shouldn’t be riding at all...

@rachel Alternatively, why even have roads, if you can’t maintain them %)

@rachel I saw quite a few riders back on the street acting like heifers let out in the field for the first time after winter. Hope they don't end up in the water in the ditch like heifers are wont to do...

So, yeah, I concur. But potholes still suck ;-)

@rachel Where I live there are country roads with no lighting. Some road surfaces have broken up so badly on bends that they’re a genuine and largely unavoidable hazard to the unwary. Let’s not shift responsibility to the riders when it should be with the councils.
@saulm no static hazard is unavoidable – it just means you were riding without adjusting to the conditions.
@rachel I would disagree with the generalisation. I can’t adjust to a condition I cannot see and it’s impractical to tip-toe around every unfamiliar bend.
@saulm you’re going into a turn without being able to stop within what you can see??? 😐
@rachel I may be able to see around the bend to read the road but not necessarily see the surface at any distance in the dark. I do agree that we should be responsible for our safety but not that all hazards are always avoidable. That would denote all road damage to a mere inconvenience.
@rachel of both minds here, maintain roads and maintain safe riding practices. Both are doable. Slow and steady until mid summer, then you need the breeze to stay cool on these big ol' heat machines (Harley, looking at you) 🤣
