I can ’t help but think when I read these stories on the road conditions that, if you can’t ride according to the conditions and are not able to avoid a couple of potholes, you probably shouldn’t be riding at all...

@rachel Where I live there are country roads with no lighting. Some road surfaces have broken up so badly on bends that they’re a genuine and largely unavoidable hazard to the unwary. Let’s not shift responsibility to the riders when it should be with the councils.
@saulm no static hazard is unavoidable – it just means you were riding without adjusting to the conditions.
@rachel I would disagree with the generalisation. I can’t adjust to a condition I cannot see and it’s impractical to tip-toe around every unfamiliar bend.
@saulm you’re going into a turn without being able to stop within what you can see??? 😐
@rachel I may be able to see around the bend to read the road but not necessarily see the surface at any distance in the dark. I do agree that we should be responsible for our safety but not that all hazards are always avoidable. That would denote all road damage to a mere inconvenience.
