Trump administration will pay a French company $1 billion in taxpayer funds to not build wind farms

The Trump administration announced it will pay nearly $1 billion to French energy giant TotalEnergies in exchange for the company abandoning plans to build offshore wind farms in the Atlantic Ocean and instead pursue fossil fuel projects in the US.

@ExtinctionR

Trump: funding foreign multinationals while simultaneously permanently disadvantaging the US economy.

@ExtinctionR Trump just has some kind of obsession with renewable energy
@ChaosInThoughts @ExtinctionR
Trump is being bribed to have that obsession.
Why Portugal and Spain Dodge Europe's Energy Price Shock

Spain and Portugal's strong wind and solar capacity keeps wholesale electricity prices 6070/MWh far below levels in gas-dependent European countries.

@ExtinctionR They should do what Trump does with every contract he's ever signed. Just take the money/service/good, find some wonky loophole to get out of the agreement, then use the free money/service/good to build windmills anyway. #fucktrump

@barryallen2023 @ExtinctionR you're talking about an oil and gas company.

Whose previous CEO was so loved n Russia that one of the (non-shadow) Russian tanker bears his name and trademark moustache.

@ExtinctionR The grifting is so blatant.
@ExtinctionR we could build a Utopia if it weren't for the greedy...

The Trump regime has paid a French company $1Bn to NOT replace oil with renewables. 🤦

If I was directing that company I would take the money.

later invest it in a huge solar project with Battery storage.
Fuck trump and his pedo nazi criminal gang.

@ExtinctionR Corruption by a foreign government seems a major offense to me.
@ExtinctionR Take the money and do it anyway - it's what he'd do.

@CryogenicIce9 @ExtinctionR they can't do it anyway, the billion is money they'd already spent leasing sites to build wind farms, the US cancelled those leases this is just them being compensated

Unless you're suggesting an oil company should just unilaterally occupy that territory regardless?

@ExtinctionR Headlines make a facts of the story more palatable. Describing the payor as the "Trump Administration" instead of U.S. Taxpayers creates an illusion for the readers and MAGA supporters, and most don't connect the dots because they are brainwashed.

@ExtinctionR

More accurately: Returning the $1 billion an oil company had paid the US, which the oil company will now instead use increasing European dependency on US gas exports.
