Spending 3 to 5 USD for every USD you make is not exactly what I'd consider good business.

@tante you see, it's totally good business, we just are not good business people and therefor don't understand it!
@tante And that's _with_ hype at a continuous fever pitch and I'm sure many of those 15 million people having been signed up by their employers.
@tante depends on who is spending the money.
@tante they make it up in volume?
@tante there is a difference between infrastructure investment and COGs. Microsoft spending roughly 20B on DC investment isn't the same as buring 20B per quarter on using somebody else's DCs. And the 20B DC capacity added isn't just used for powering Copilot but also for selling that DC capacity to others. Microsoft isn't losing money, it's making 28B *after* investing into additional DC capacity. You can still ask if that's a clever investment going forward but this is not "spending 3-5 USD to make 1 USD"
@tante I expect those numbers to get a lot worse over the next six months as the US/Israel war against Iraq drives up energy costs and snarls supply chains. This may be the thing that bursts the AI bubble.
@lrhodes it will put some pressure on things, I am sure
@tante at points in my life i have done this and i cannot reocmmend it.
@tante but people keep shoveling money into azure for some reason
@tante Personally, it lead to me canceling Microsoft 365. Curious how that factors in.
@scottmichaud @tante yeah! Copilot wasn’t opt in either - they tricked me into paying for it. And I was one of those who didn’t cancel 365.
@tante @codinghorror no man, they’ll make it up in scale
@tante I'm sure it is if you read it from the Art of the Deal.
