I’ve always loved Liquid Glass and still do. I also loved Aqua in the original OSX release. Just like Aqua got better each new release, I expect the same to happen with LG.

@mark Can’t wait to see what you’ll do with it!
@mark I really hope so. Because unlike Aqua, Liquid Glass has no excuse for being this undercooked 😬
@sindarina The first 2 versions of Aqua were pretty rough. I remember the switch from OS9 to 10. 🫣 Remember how heavy handed the pin stripes started out? And they were over everything.

@mark Also, the buttons that started like they were blue pills, slowly becoming squarer, flatter, and less blue 😂

Took them like 5-10 years to properly hit their stride, and then they kind of overdid it with the flatness. I really hope we don't have to go through that entire cycle again 👵🏻

@mark @stroughtonsmith Perhaps this is because of Mastodon - but this is the first time I have seen a genuine design/graphics person express a positive sentiment about liquid glass. I have not upgraded any of my devices and think about leaving the platform (not only but also because of liquid glass).

@mark I agree that iOS needed a redesign because it was getting long in the tooth. I preferred the skeumorphic design anyway over flat. So I’m glad Liquid Glass brings that back.

I just think it needs refinement and fixing, especially where text is illegible. As well as development to come up with additional ways to use it.

Pity however that we had to lose all that experience and stability. I’m not a dev but starting from scratch with LG must be a lot of extra work all over.

@mark @stroughtonsmith it’s tolerable and sometimes even looks good on new devices, but if you have an older iPhone, especially one with a smaller screen, the iOS experience has never been nearly this bad. Not sure what was hit worse - performance, battery life or useable screen area.

@mark I really like Liquid Glass; but I think Xcode 27 not honoring ‘UIDesignRequiresCompatibility’ anymore is a mistake.

In my case, I’d love to be able to do a ground up rewrite of one of my employer’s 10 year old apps to take advantage of Liquid Glass and to properly implement the iOS HIG’s that the last group pretty much ignored… But getting the business to buy in on a year long pause on new features just isn’t in the cards. Ugh.
