Oh, boy! Canada joining Europe was a joke in response to Trump's 51st state.

Apparently, now Canada news is making it out to be more...

Sure it gained a life of its own in the media, and it seems Macron made an offer to Carney. Carney said no, as this was to be expected <facepalm>.

@silkester

uh… Can you cite where Macron made an offer? I cannot find it.

@Amgine

If I could I would, but it was a long time ago in the German media, and it is now burried in reports where Macron clarifies that the control button would never be handed to anybody but the French president.

And as I stated repeatedly, I filed it as trolling Putin not a serous offer ever. Which does not refer to the EU nuklear umbrella but solely to the who can launch a French nuke.

We are in the propaganda phase and many leaks and statements float around before ratifying anything.

Found, working the question differently:

First, the denial in response to Macron was in June 2025: #CBC: https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canada-eu-partnership-deepening-ties-1.7570680

But the invitation to closer involvement (not necessarily membership) has been recently renewed, from at least Finnish and French officials: #Politico: https://www.politico.eu/article/canada-could-join-eu-says-french-foreign-minister-jean-noel-barrot/

Canada isn't looking to join EU, Carney says, but still wants closer ties | CBC News

Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada is “looking for a closer partnership” with the European Union — but not to become a member.

Oh, I am so sorry; I just read more of the thread, and you have been being harassed. I did not intend to do so, and I sincerely apologize.

@Amgine

No worries. you didn't come across the same way.
