@skeletor A lot of times they don't care. Don't expect miracles.
@crazyeddie @skeletor Finding out doesn't necessitate caring. As long as it keeps you from fucking around again.
@dalias @skeletor If you don't care about the consequences, why would you stop?
@crazyeddie @skeletor If the "fucking around" were sticking your arm into a wood chipper, even if you don't care what happens to your arm, you won't be able to do it a second time after "finding out". πŸ™ƒ
@dalias @crazyeddie @skeletor you have two arms don't you πŸ˜‚

@renardboy @dalias @skeletor I mean....

Someone thinks they're a woodchipper gonna take my arm, I'm feeding them a wrench.

@crazyeddie I believe they just answered your question.

Their primary goal is to cease the objectionable conduct. If someone else learns from that, great. If they don't, at least the conduct is blunted.

@skeletor I have earrings for this exact mood πŸ™‚πŸͺ‘

@skeletor That's a big case-by-case thing. Some people are just giant fucking losers who are going nowhere and trying to drag others down with them just so they can feel like they have a shred of power.

If you have ideas and dreams and projects, you're infinitely above these people and you should know that their words can only have as much substance as they themselves have, which is none, and you shouldn't even give them the power to offend you.

This post is inspired by recent events.

@renardboy It's often very difficult to assess others' state of mind and intent, never mind know the many factors behind it, but we're usually prepared to assess superficial conduct, which in all cases is relevant in interactions with others. These are lessons that everyone needs to learn, for their own good, no matter the reason for their conduct.
@skeletor It may sound conceited (and if it does, O well), but this is a big reason I'm sometimes an asshole online (not just IRL!). The Internet is in many ways a 'safe space' for such conflicts, because no real violence will result; some feelings might get hurt, but that's it. It's an environment in which people have an opportunity to learn some hard lessons about interactions with others BEFORE they make the same potentially dangerous mistakes IRL.
@skeletor I really want this on a sticker πŸ˜‚
@skeletor the grim reaper is undefeated
@skeletor what does "bigger person" mean in this case?
@anselmschueler @skeletor

I think "being the bigger person" here refers to being the one that backs off of a confrontation instead of continuing. To taking the metaphorical punch or hit and not retaliate in kind.

The one that does having a better/bigger character than the other.

That's at least my understanding.
