I figured faves would also be migrated when I changed Fedi instances, but there’s not even an export mechanism :(

Maybe there’s a script or a bot to iterate the old account and re-fave under this account?

@mWare What about bookmarks? I fav and bookmark *a lot*.
@WTL they came over just fine; I don't actually know what the distinction or purposes between them is.

@mWare I find fav is often just an ACK - to let say "I saw" this. Sometimes it's "I agree." Sometimes it's "I hear you."
But bookmarks for me are always just a resource or piece of information I think I might need again.

Makes me wonder - can we keyword-search our bookmarks?

@WTL

@WTL not seeing an option in #Tusky.

@mWare

@ottaross @WTL @mWare you can keyword search your "library", which includes your bookmarks. https://pachli.app makes this easy, see the attached screenshot.

@ottaross @WTL Still gotta wonder why they'd be treated differently tho.

Unless there's an abuse angle (repeatedly/bulk faving things?) that the designers are thinking of...

@mWare @WTL "Favourite" is public. It notifies the author of the original post, and each post has a visible list of the accounts that favourited it.

"Bookmark" is private. The post's author is not notified, no one else can see you bookmarked the post.

@nikclayton @WTL I sorta figured that a few minutes after I posted... still doesn't explain why they aren't transferrable - the new server wouldn't even NEED (but could) notify the remote servers of the Fave'ing. And failing all that, could at least import them as bookmarks instead.

But, again, CANNOT export Faves...!

@mWare
A lot of tweaking, rejigging, and mopping up required after a move, I’m finding.

@jd You were one of the people I ended up not following, but if you were perhaps migrating at the same time I was...

Tangential: Did you see Chad's posts this morning?

@mWare
Thanks. We seem to be mutuals now.
@jd I gift you a catpic.
@jd @mWare Anything I can help with?
@andrew @mWare
Thanks Andrew. Settling in nicely.
@mWare I know the mastodon api pretty well at this point; I could probably write up a quick script to do this if you want?
@andrew I'd be interested, but there's no pressing need; if I lose my faves, that sucks, but I'll live.
@mWare @WTL I saw that some things (like followers) can take up to a month to transfer, I wonder if it’s the same thing there?
