@moira We're kind of benumbed at this point, but I think it's worth highlighting: Trump says to the reporter "Ok, you have a scoop." The president of the United States is cold-calling reporters (only from right-wing outlets of course) to place stories. In the Before Times this was something a junior assistant to the press secretary did, and then only on background.

You do not face crimes with deals or you promote more crimes until you have nothing to make deals with.

@BlurredPixels Because way too many Americans are woefully, dreadfully, intentionally disinterested and/or misinformed about politics. E.g., "Congress isn't..." essentially as a universal when it's almost always actually "Republicans aren't." And that's even leaving off "intentionally, to fuck shit up." Sloppy blame-spreading bullshit like that is a big part of why.

I mean, it's uneven - it wasn't close in Cascadian states. They didn't win anything, and that includes white voters. But they won enough places that - as usual - our political opinions really, really, really don't count.

@xs4me2 (Where I live is a white/asian mix, heavily white. In 2024 they lost 80/20 in my precinct and 75/25 in my district. Fucking landslide, _again_. Getting _any_ votes is a disgrace, really, but we did pretty well.)

@lydialurch Last I checked, they don't even pretend to want that - they were in fact _saying outright_ this doesn't create any kind of new national ID. It's _just_ about mass disenfranchisement, chaos, and discrediting the election.
