I am 82 years old.
I have lived through the Cuban Missile Crisis, the JFK assassination, the Vietnam War, the Turmoil of 1968, Watergate, the Hostage Crisis, two oil crisis, disco, Reaganomics, 9/11.
The covid pandemic....
These past 11 months have been easily the most miserable era in America in my lifetime.
The hatred, the bigotry, the lies, the racketeering and pedophilia are beyond anything I have ever seen.
We are not going to hell as a nation.
We are IN hell.
@Ann1944 Well, the verdict is still out for Trump vs. disco.
@stevefelten
Sorry about the dico your right, it doesn't belong on this list. Blame it on my 81 years. lol

@Ann1944 @stevefelten no no that was funny - and we needed the laugh.

Also, the flipside is that we woke up to a lot that has been going on all this time. The pedophilia. Reaganomics. AIDS. Cigarettes. The Climate.

Now we know better, and that makes me feel better than not knowing shit.

@stevefelten @Ann1944 -disco sucks. I still prefer music that can be played in a drunken kitchen; however, most of the records burnt at events like the notoriuos MLB game where tens of thousands records were trashed, were soul and R+B. And not white rock and roll. Just good old cultural music hatred; hated like early rock 'n roll "elvis hips"or early hip hop "pissing on the stairs like they just don't care". Not disco, but different. Hope is aliens arrive so all can unite in their hatred.

@Ann1944

I think the patient is dead. Time to call it.

@Ann1944

not quite, as you still have some hope

@Ann1944 you havent lived through the pandemic.

Its still raging, killing and disabling millions, meanwhile we have *nazi eugenicists* in our government of the same type we killed in Germany in 1942. They have decided to speed up the demise of older folks like yourself, as well as all the disabled, sick, pregnant, etc etc people who they think dont matter.

The pandemic is still ongoing. This is late stage capitalism, oligarchy, fascism. GENERAL ACTION NOW!

@Ann1944 You forgot big oil, industrial farming, fast food, increasing poverty, and … global warming. Yeah, I think you are right.

@Ann1944 I was in grade school when the Cuban Missile Crisis happened. I didn't know what was going on until years later when I saw THE MISSILES OF OCTOBER.

I asked my Mom about it, not realizing what really happened. She told me she didn't know if she should send me to school or not in case there was an emergency. In the end, it blew over, I continued learning my multiplication tables, and I was clueless about how close we came to a nuclear war.

@Ann1944 Don't forget that one time you (sorry, they) bombed a girls school in Iran and killed over a hundred children between the age of 7 and 12. I guess their siblings and parents feel pretty bad as well.
@alpacamale
I am not American, I am Canadian, we didn't bomb anyone!!
@Ann1944 Let me tell you man i went to church today with my family and the hate from some people in church is outrageous. What is the reason people go to church???? To learn about God peace and love but this church people full of hate and why are you here among us. We sold our house few years ago and we use to go to the church in our way and now we are one hour away so we decided to go to the church near us about 1 mile but that was a serious mistake. Not 2 or 3 people but a number of them.
@Zamunda @Ann1944 I am happily Atheist and certainly not a Christian Nationalist 🤔 which seems to be fascist in your country. I feel for all thinking people in your living hell.
@connynasch @Zamunda
I am also an atheist & I am Canadian, not American, thank god...lol
@Zamunda @Ann1944
As an atheist, I hope the rapture is real & happens ASAP.
Then we will be relieved of 90% of the BS in the world. Can't wait for all the Christian nationalists to be removed from civilization. What a wonderful world it will be.

@Ann1944

I'm younger, but no spring chicken and yeah, this moment is batshit crazy.

@Ann1944
Two years older with the same gut reactions. We continue to push back with all our power as citizens.
@Ann1944 if you're in hell, don't stop driving. put the pedal down.
@Ann1944 After realisation comes action.
@Ann1944 But disco though...
@ApostateEnglishman @Ann1944 there’s a lot of great disco music and I’ll die on that hill.

@lerxst @Ann1944 I was surprised - although not particularly surprised, as once you hear it you can't unhear it! - that a lot of Dave Grohl's drumming in his Nirvana days was inspired by disco beats. So there's that...

Anyway, it was more the sheer incongruence of the inclusion of "disco" in a list of truly awful things, that led to my joke. Of course there's a lot of great disco music. I mean if Le Freak by Chic doesn't make you wanna put on some oversized shades and start moving, what will?!

@ApostateEnglishman @Ann1944 the first LP I bought with my own money was the “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” soundtrack. The first 8-track I bought with my own money was “C’est Chic”. Nile Rodgers is a legend and one of my all-time favorite guitarists.
@Ann1944 I feel your pain. In fact, we all do.
@Ann1944 But don't think that things with Trump will be better. If you want democracy tour have to fight against Trump. He is only interested in his own power and money, anything else. To get both, he will destroy everything.
In Venezuela and Iran democracy hasn't been installed with Trump. 🍀
You should have been a lot more radical 🤷‍♀️
@Ann1944 I agree with you. The US has become hell on earth.
@Ann1944 The whole world is anxious and worried with you.

@Ann1944

A hell of our own making, no less..

@Ann1944 I love that you included disco in your list of the tribulations of the 20th century.
@Ann1944 Our retirement is kind of ruined by Covid, war and morons.

@Ann1944

Four years younger, but same same. Except I've felt like this was coming since 2016.

But when I think about it, I think it started way back with Citizens United.

@Ann1944

* Everyone that votes is liable. *

@govinda_hari @Ann1944 also: everyone who didn't vote
@mu @govinda_hari
Mistakes happen. No problem.

@Ann1944 I don't intend to argue about how bad things are now, however segregation in the US lasted until the 1960s an beyond.

You were 11 years old when Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give her seat to a white person on the bus.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montgomery_bus_boycott

Maybe things have never been this bad for the white population in the USA.

Montgomery bus boycott - Wikipedia

@s1m0n4
Segregation is still going on now. I am against all the hatred in the world. I live in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, right across from Detroit. I remember when the whole city was torn apart with Whites against Blacks. We are all equal in my mind, but I realize your people have suffered & did not mean to offend you. What is going on in the States right now is because the white population is afraid they are losing the upper hand & the white supremists are doing everything to keep what they consider their right to be at the top of the totem pole. Please accept my apology if I offended you,
@Ann1944 I'm white and I live in Europe. I'm not offended.
What I meant with my post is that things weren't always better before.
Even for white women life wasn't easier in the 60s or 70s, as some advertisement posters remind us.
Civil rights have been fought for and won during your lifetime. And that's great. However what feels worse now is that those conquered rights are being set back again. Today people don't get arrested for not giving up their seat. Not yet.
@s1m0n4
I totally agree with you. I was born in England in 1944. Born in a bombing raid. Then moved to Canada with my mom & dad, who was a Canadian soldier.

@Ann1944 it's interesting and true when you say this is the most miserable in america. But the situations the usa has created elsewhere in the past can be a good bit worse...

If you describe the situation within the USA now as hell, I'm thinking about how it was/is in viet nam, in cambodia, in palestine, iraq, etc. Not even talking about the colonies yet. The usa has been creating hell on earth, but foremost, elsewhere.

@Ann1944

And it is all due to one con man, his lies, his manipulation, his narcissistic perversion and his Republican followers that this came to be.

Triggered by the internal neoliberal capitalist rot that made few ultrarich much to influential.

The resemblance with the 1930s is striking in a distorted, perverted way.

The question is, how to change this unconstitutional and undemocratic aberration… he and his yes men need to be held accountable, or it simply might happen again.
