I've been doing weekly calls with someone in Taiwan to practice my Mandarin and essentially the theme is "Allan shows what's up in Chicago on Sunday Mornings" like diners, markets, etc. One amusing thing was my explaining how gasoline prices are not just impacted by state taxes, but are set by a gas station owner and it can depend on a myriad of things like proximity to the highway, city vs rural, etc. In Taiwan gas prices are pretty consistent throughout the country.
The person has decided that i should practice ㄅㄆㄇㄈ because it's simply faster lol. But to be fair my use if pinyin is pretty much a conversion of zhuyin
A lot of my answers to questions about the US is "depends on the state"
So essentially what I've been doing is picking a different part of the area to be at and then talk about it. So i talked about the shamrock shuffle, then talked about st Patty's at chicago, then attempted to explain BORG. This lead to talking about festivals like Lollapalooza (described AXE BODY SPRAY) and Riot Fest then "I like Sunset Rollercoaster" turned to me going into a dive into "well i guess if you like sunset rollercoaster you may like..."
