I've updated GIMP to 3.20 and it turns out text layers with text styling effects go invisible if you move them into a folder group.

It seems someone had already reported this issue about a week ago, so hopefully it will be addressed with a hotfix relatively soon.

Hope so too, but great to see gimp is moving at some pace again

@dronn @GIMP they should probably add a button to the text tool's panel to open text style UI, cause right now you need to go to Filters > Generic > Text styling, which is a bit ridiculous.

It's also a shame you can't have mouse clicks as a part of a hotkey combo. I get that it could sometimes override "standard" behavior, but hate some of that behavior, so that would've been great :)

I will never forgive them killing off shift+click to create a layer mask.

@lastofavari @dronn actually i agree, and thought it had been done, but i don’t see it there. Will investigate a little, thanks for the reminder!

@lastofavari @dronn i forgot to mention, you can e.g. bind to alt-mouse-button-6 or change control-alt-wheel. Or even use a midi keyboard :)

for shift-click, you could look for the issue about it, or make one on the UX issues list, and explain why it was useful to you, and i can't say if it'll come back as a possibility, but if we understand the workflow we can try & accommodate it better.

@GIMP I was told in ticket last year that it's by design and shift+click 100% not gonna happen. It seems that people who make decisions "know better", although "Restore legacy layer selector mouse click behavior" would've been appreciated.

@GIMP And I've just tried using every single mouse button than I've got including both side buttons in "Edit > Keyboard shortcuts" UI. It didn't react at all. It seems to only accept keyboard inputs when assigning a new combo.

Theoretically, I could use 3rd party software to map side buttons to keyboard keys, but that would be insane.

@lastofavari yeah, i should have used more words, sorry. Go to edt/preferences and it's under Canvas Interaction as Modifiers, because mouse buttons aren't considered keys by the underlying toolkits. It'd be better if we could nify these, but for now, they're in different places. But you can e.g. hold down control-cabbage-banana-shift-mouse-button-17 and click the button to rebind it.
@dronn @lastofavari the bug with text layers and groups is indeed being worked on actively.
