super fascinated that this person thinks basic-ahh commercial studio photography was “CGI graphics”

in the comments, they are arguing to the death that “yes, CGI was that good in the 90’s” and “it can’t be a photo because the lighting is too consistent”

is this what it feels like to be old

@cabel oh dear God. I have no words. CGI? lol
@cabel I already got confused the other day when a reel was explaining the 'analog' lifestyle which was basically listening to mp3s and using digital(!) point-and-shoot cameras.
@cabel I think it’s bait. Look at everyone sharing the tiktok now. I has to be bait. Right… right?
@kevinbhayes @cabel yes, acting stupid for engagement is one of the main baits used on TikTok. Look at the idiotic facial expression, its a giveaway.
@cabel @kevinbhayes it’s just a bit. They’re in character for engagement
@cabel has to be trolling. then again, the studies are showing the COVID brain drain is real…
@cabel We were getting a Meow Wolf in Denver 6-ish years ago. Only the ultra-connected were getting sneak preview tours. I was not invited for a preview. Instead, I went to the local #ikea, took closeups of the arty display nooks, and hash tagged them #MeowWolfDenver. No one was hurt.
@cabel CGI is just the word we use now when the light source is coming straight down.
@cabel See for instance this Wikipedia article on first press organic Hawaiian cgi: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lahaina_Noon?wprov=sfti1

@cabel This is just someone acting stupid for engagement. Its the currency of TikTok
@cabel wait til they find out the old HBO ident was actually a physical model https://youtu.be/agS6ZXBrcng
@gormster @cabel That was a really fun watch! As an 80s kid with an interest in film, I've of course seen the HBO intro sequence dozens of times and always wondered how they made it. I didn't know you could even get a metal model to look that uncannily smooth.
@cabel even if it's a plant, boosting to appreciate the hard work and expertise that went into professional product photography. And in the 1990s they would've needed to get everything right on film, too.
@cabel CGI = Clickbait Generating Ignorance
