There will be beans. Baked beans. #ItsHappeningAgain
Beans were beaned. #BeanAllTheThings

Guess who got around to making breakfast at 10 am, idly wondered β€œwhy is the stovetop warm?”, then realized he’d forgotten to turn off the 300Β°F oven after making beans yesterday afternoon. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜¬πŸ€£

Anyway the beans are good.

In other Chris-is-distracted news, my laundry timer went off, so I went to move wet clothes to the drying racks, only to discover I forgot to close the lid on the washing machine so it hadn’t actually, you know, started washing. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Time for coffee.

So, as someone who’s been designing websites for 30+ years, the user experience of an oven that has a light indicating that the element is actively heating β€” but no light to indicate that it’s ON β€” is garbage. The potential downsides? Wasting huge amounts of expensive electricity and setting your house on fire (what if I’d gone out for several days?). But the manufacturer saved $3 on a circuit with a light.
@tantramar Oh and I hope they are still making stoves with real controls instead of these touch keys that go off whenever I slightly look at them!
@Dianora A friend has a modern stove. I refuse to touch it even to reheat things. I swear they make things intentionally confusing. (Not that my 40+ year old stove is anywhere near perfect.)
@tantramar "senior moment" *whistles innocently*
@Dianora I’ve been like this my whole life. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜¬
@tantramar surprised your floofs weren't basking in the warmth of the oven...
@cazmockett I keep the burners fully occupied with cast-iron pans or steel pots at all times in case one of them decides to walk across a warm β€” or hot β€” element. And I’m vigilant about making sure neither of them gets to try to jump into the exciting new box when I open the hot oven. 😬 Because that’s something Ripley, especially, would do.
@tantramar sounds like you are a very conscientious cat dad πŸ‘πŸ»

@tantramar you've accidentally discovered the equivalent of shabbos mode β€‹

@tantramar I only use the oven with its timer...

@tantramar lovely. So nice in this weather. Or with a meal involving maple syrup too.

I acquired the bits recently, but still haven't pulled the trigger on my usual winter-weather bean batch. Maybe this is why we're getting constant late season snow? I probably have to do it to break the cycle.

@ottaross If putting some maple syrup into the beans is wrong then I don’t wanna be right!!! 🍁
@tantramar I lean that way too, usually a mix of maple syrup, brown sugar and molasses.
@ottaross That’s the stuff, right there!
@tantramar well, now I need beans on toast for supper!
