My old laptop's replacement battery has attempted a self-ignition. I think it's time to start saving up for a new laptop. I'd love to have a #Framework 16. I just don't know if I can stand having a CPU with "AI" in it's name. A real mobile workstation would be sweet though. My current laptop can't play 4K video smoothly, lol.
It's possible if the #SteamFrame comes out first I might crack and get it instead. Running #ArchLinux on my face sounds like the apex.

@unfa Hardly possible to find a laptop that doesn't have AI somewhere in the name today, let alone in the marketing. The one I got the other day apparently has a "copilot key" and an "AI key". (I do not know what the difference is, but I'm running Linux on it now so it doesn't matter.)
@SonnyBonds you're best bet is going with apple on the AI front. They're so far behind that even if they "try" to sell you on AI everyone knows they're not able to 🤣

@unfa

A real mobile workstation would be sweet though.Cyberdeck? :>

@unfa Laptops from Starlabs.system are very good Linux laptops.

@unfa

What about Tuxedo ?

Framework has been in some controversy lately.

@kjv Can you please link me to Tuxedo and a source for the controversies you have in mind? I am not familiar with either.

@unfa

Another plus point is Tuxedo is based in Germany, (unlike Framework which is American) @tuxedocomputers

@unfa - the first gen Framework 16 did not have AI in the name and is still pretty sweet. If you're coming from such an old daily driver, maybe get that as refurb or seconds...
@axel_hartmann Right, that is an option! I am tempted to go for the most powerful platform so it lasts me the longest. I can add RAM and storage later but replacing the mobile with CPU seems a bit wasteful (I am not using the old motherboard anymore).
@unfa - that's the thing with the Framework - you can in fact just exchange the mainboard later - something not an option with most other systems. (I'm pretty sure - maybe best to verify)
@unfa woah, glad you seem to have noticed in time. I once was in a room with a burning laptop. Your best bet is usually to throw that thing out the window right away (that thought always gives me the creeps on long distance flights, haha).
@dvzrv Oh crap! Yeah, I was happy it didn't happen during a flight to #LibreGraphicsMeeting in April...
