Oh boy.

So fine, do your thing, and as a concept I like encouraging people to just go portable and have fun...

BUT

"We're not here to gatekeep"

And

"No FT8" along with many statements that give strong "digital modes aren't real radio vibes"

Appear on literally the same page.

My dude....that is the exact definition of gatekeeping

🙄

Out On The Air

I'm going to start claiming that CW isn't real radio because it's just two people pushing buttons at each other. They aren't 'really' interacting.

#sarcasm

@N3VEM

Ah, CW, the original digit-al mode. 🖐️

@IrrationalMethod @N3VEM need one of these memes for Morse Code, 🤣🤣

And in another twist, this is an exact quote from the website of the person who appears to be the creator of this:

"At this time, all of my radio activity is restricted to DMR (Digital Mobile Radio) via MMDVM hotspot on the Brandmeister DMR network for global QSOs, and local 2 Meter repeaters on the VE9IRG analog repeater network of 30 machines"

Im sorry, this poor person is going to think I'm picking on them, but something about this is really stuck in my craw. Back to the "we're not here to gatekeep" statement. By saying "only voice and CW are acceptable" you're specifically gatekeeping several whole groups of people with certain physical and neurological traits that make it impossible for them to do voice and/or CW.

If you want to make a voice and CW only thing fine, but following it with "we're not gate keeping" rubs me wrong.

Anyway - sorry to the person behind all this if I've upset you wherever you are, but I apparently was smacked with the very strong opinion stick this morning.
@N3VEM What does "being coherent" means anyway? /o\
@F4LUB @N3VEM isn't that when the phase difference between two photon streams is constant? 😆

@N3VEM Yeah. I got that vibe too.

So much time spent telling other people how to play radio. Just go play radio your way and then tell us about it! Way more productive, IMO.

@KC8JC this is so true

@N3VEM the prohibition of digital modes felt antithetical to the mission to get out and on the air. It really confused me when I saw that.

I wish them the best, we will see if it catches on.
