What y'all know about His and Hers #RPGs on Friday night?

@AllKeysGDS playing the Dragon Quest 7 remake while I play Tactics Ogre Reborn on adjacent TVs. Typically both TVs are my PC monitors, but I'll happily give one up when she wants to play something.

Single Player Couch Co-Op right here.

@NaClKnight @AllKeysGDS How you liking DQ7? Been meaning to play it sometime in the future so curious.

@yon

That's very much a @AllKeysGDS game so I'll defer to her. The DQ series is not one i enjoy.

@NaClKnight @AllKeysGDS This is so cute omg 🤩 So glad y'all can still take time to enjoy hobbies together! I know the little one is gonna grow up to be a gamer too haha

@Sharksonaplane @AllKeysGDS You know it.

We're already planning to buy our kid some game controller shaped teething toys to get her used to holding one.

Do you ever play actual couch coop games?
@ohmu @NaClKnight We've played Halo couch coop, Haven, Vampire Survivors,Gears of War,RE 7, Cat Quest, River City Girls 2....am I missing any @NaClKnight ?
@AllKeysGDS @NaClKnight
I hadn't heard of even one of those as a couch coop game.
Thank you. I will look into those.
(Playing It Takes Two with my wife was the most fun I've ever had playing video games. We also loved Biped. I suspect neither have universal appeal, though).

@ohmu

I think @AllKeysGDS mentioned all of them but i can give a little context.

Haven was FANTASTIC as a couch co-op adventure game about two twentysomething lovers who've fled to an abandoned planet. Great dialogue. Highly recommend.

Resident Evil 5 (Chris & Sheva) has built in co-op and it's fun if a little clunky

It's been a few years but we also loved playing through the Halo Master Chief collection as she said.

River City Girls 1 & 2 are hilarious side scrolling beat em ups with cheeky humor, excellent art, and very fun, engaging combat.

Streets of Rage is similar but definitely less funny and more combat focused

Cat Quest 2 specifically let's P2 play as a dog, which i appreciated.

Guacamelee was a 2 player metroidvania we liked as well.

On the lighter side, Overcooked, Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime, and Out of Space are all fun without complicated controls or a deep story. Easy reccs

All of those have real built in couch co-op.

We got good mileage out of Remnant 2 and Outriders, but neither had couch co-op so we had to use the two screen method. Halo Infinite was the same way.

We gave IT2 a shot but bounced off it halfway through for reasons i no longer remember.

@NaClKnight @AllKeysGDS
How do you keep your eyes and minds on your screen? Split Fiction from Hazelight Studios is different and fun for co-op gamers.

@jlm Practice, i guess? Same as keeping your eyes on your screen growing up with split screen console games like Mario Kart or Halo or Gears of War.

Good looking out tho; i appreciate the game rec. Hazelight also makes It Takes Two, which we didn't like very much. It turns out that neither of us really fucks with those adventure style action platformer games.

@AllKeysGDS and I didn't enjoy It Takes Two's characters or writing all that much and the moment to moment gameplay had tooooo many "QuickTime or Die" style sequences. Too much platforming, not enough player self expression

Split Fiction sounded similar enough that we skipped it entirely in favor of working through our backlog instead
