me talking to 2 twentysomethings about how i have a soundcard in a box from the 90s that was so old it fit in an isa slot and took two sticks of ram, because it was functionally a fancy keyboard without keys and it made dooms music sound better because it had 'the better midi instruments'
@Viss *pours one out for the homies*

@Viss

There was a video of...one of the Space Quest intros...played on PC speaker, then some random sound card, SoundBlaster, and then the Roland MT-32 or similar and the Roland was a goddamn revelation.

@rk roland! that was the one! i couldnt remember who else it was other than soundblaster

@Viss @rk

Roland SC-55 probably, or a MT-32 if memory serves me, was used in particular for the music of doom (again, if memory serves me)

Just checked Wikipedia, and yep. Memory served me well

Was more of a Gravis Ultrasound person myself.

@Viss I had completely forgot about adding RAM to sound cards but I definitely did it 😆

@Viss

sure, grandpa. let's get you back to your room... :)

@Viss Awe yiss. I needed the CD Rom controller for my mitsui drive too.
@CDubbs @Viss ahh, yes. This. Should’ve scrolled. :)

@Viss But does it have the cdrom controller onboard too? ;)

(I think I have our ps2 sound blaster around somewhere.)
